5 years ago I Sold a 2010 Tahoe to CArMax for $20,000.00. It had about 70,000 miles, I think. Dealers were going to give mr $17500.00 on a trade.

I have sold about 2 cars to them in the past. GMC Acadia and Cadillac CTS, both were north of 100,000 miles. They beat dealer offers by a couple thousand on both and were under about $1000 what I could get selling myself.
Selling to them was better than trying to squeeze out more money selling myself. Time is money.

About two? It's either 2 or it's a different number. You can't sell them 2 and 3/4 cars.

This year I sold an ‘07 Civic Si with 97k mi that had some cosmetic issues. They gave me $4,500 for it.

Sold two. Chrysler PT Cruiser, about 8 years old, 100,000 miles. I think $3500. That car was a pain in the a**, needed a lot of repairs. Were glad to get anything for it. Then sold a Mazda Miata, 2004 model or so, over 100,000 miles. Can’t remember what they paid but it was higher than any trade in. They were very easy to work with.

Sold about 2 as well.
1.) > dealer trade-in values

I asked them to look at a z71 truck 2009, with about 55000 miles(spring of 2017), they offered $9500. I laughed and left. they stated that they were deducting because the rear bumper had a spot on it (they stated it needed to be replaced), dash was cracked (they never could show me the crack), stated that the electronic controls were worn and needed to be replaced and a few other things.
I sold it either from facebook or craiglist for bluebook value - buyer paid cash and was delighted with vehicle.

I tried...in 2015 I brought in a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup with 200K miles and a little body damage, no working AC, and they offered me 500 bucks. My local mechanic who had worked on it and knew it run well bought it from me for $1500 and sold it to an illegal Mexican for $2000. Gotta love Texas

Most dealers will match or beat their offer and they will too I'm told. So get both offers and do what saves you time.

Sold a 2002 GMC Sierra this past weekend to carmax for $3000. It had 160k miles, some mechanical issues and some body damage. I was ecstatic to get $3000 for it. The whole process took about 90 minutes from start to finish.

Sold 2012 Accord with 80k miles for $10k last week. Always get the appraisal from CarMax before trading in. Dealer came up to $8700 after showing him the CarMax offer, said “ you’ll save another 7% by trading vs selling to CarMax”. I said even with that I lose $ because Math. Would not make up difference. Drove down the street and was in and out in under 20 minutes with check.
It takes 15-20 minutes to get appraisal and gives you options and potentially leverage on dealership, its a no brainer in my opinion.
