I think of them as a way to get stable enough to seek help in the first place and start learning how to deal with stress without meds.

You have to learn to replace the meds.

I concur. I was prescribed to anti-depressants for anxiety while in college. Hated the side effects, so I just stopped taking them one day. Talk about a horrible experience.

I'm lucky to not have too many bad side effects on Zoloft. The worst things are that I feel tired more often, and now I have a tendency to take naps that end up being 3-4 hours. When I sleep, even during naps, I have vivid dreams, which it's known to cause. I had a semi-lucid dream the other day about being able to fly and go through walls, so that was fun.

Who said that side effects were supposed to be bad?

Yup. There is a chemical imbalance component to anxiety, so treating that is a good first step. But I've learned that a big part of anxiety is due to huge bad habits caused by coping with that imbalance, like letting your mind run away with cognitive dissonance and downward spirals of bad thoughts.

No point in taking Zoloft once every two weeks

Do that with the other two

Get him a copy of a book called The Healing Codes. Clear it up in a couple of weeks. Everything is caused by stress. Heal the stress, heal the problem permanently.

Effexor, 75mg every other day. Hate the stuff. Gained 20 pounds on it that I can't get rid of short of starving myself. Have tried quitting but the brain tremors are bad, bad shite.

My doctor gave me Klonopin for flying. He actually encouraged me to drink while on them to help fall asleep.

Can't you get dependent on those meds?
Yes, all benzos can be habit-forming.

xanax is a terrible drug to be on long term
Agreed.

An SNRI or SSRI would have been my choice if I was going to start anything.

Apparently had my first anxiety attack the other day and my doctor gave me xanax... within an hour I wasn't short of breath anymore and didn't have a headache plus I don't think about shite that makes me anxious as much so I'm a believer in taking them for the time being.

You're wasting your time. One dose every 2 weeks isn't doing anything. It typically takes 2-6 weeks for SSRIs to show any benefit in improving depression/anxiety.

ssri's suck when you first start taking them, but in the long term they are wayy better. I will say this to anyone thinking of lexapro.. MAKE SURE you get lexapro, not the generic celexa. two different meds, and celexa has horrible side effects.. although they pass it off as the generic lexapro.

This. You pretty much have to take it every day.

completely retarded to quit drugs like that cold turkey btw

actually, for Wellbutrin, you can just stop… it's not an SSRI…. it doesn't need to be tapered off of…

Lexapro, Celexa, Effexor, etc., these need to be weened off of, but Wellbutrin doesn't…

you sure don't know shite….

Lexapro (escitalopram) is a pro-drug of Celexa (citalopram)…

in vitro, escitalopram is converted to it's active form, citalopram… essentially, for all intents and purposes, it's the same god damn drug…
