Ship island beaches are nice and water is clear and blue. Ship island ferry leaves Margaritaville in biloxi and Gulfport harbor daily. Also, OS beaches are much less crowded but water is not great. In fact, I would look into a rental in OS for what your looking for. They have a great downtown area.
If not, Sienna in Gulfport and sea breeze in Biloxi are both nice condominiums

Tbh, after New Orleans, every city is a massive drop off. It’s all about preference and familiarity at that point.
