It's a junior high school that caters to kids in the 6-8 grades. Junior high school, sometimes called middle schools, comes before high school and after elementary/primary school

I live in NW La. Not much of a threat to Istrouma attendees.

Just moved to BR, and he was telling me about EBR re-opening the school, and such. But wasn't clear about why it was closed, what the new programs are, what the neighborhood is like, etc?

I haven't lived in BR for many years, so I couldn't help him

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want his name out on the interwebz, so . . . .

Jesus.

Has your friend considered home schooling? Or at the very least self defense classes?

The previous school was combined with some other schools and charters.

The building was renovated and a new program was developed.

The middle school will be a combination of neighborhood and magnet kids.

The high school will be career focused with technical classes supported by the technical college next door. Some of this will be available to the middle school.

The area that the school is in is majority minority low income.

EBR schools have improved over the last 5 years.

The school located in NBR one of the worst sections of town.
The local residents will be attending when they feel like showing up for mandatory daycare.
You can try to sugar coat the EBRPSS.
If you sugar coat c&&p it is still c&&p with sugar on top.

I can't express to you enough how awful Istrouma Middle will be. A Dantescan Hell on Earth. A true horror. There will be unimaginable violence. There will be drugs, prostitution. Mere children become hardened criminals before their time. There will not be education of any kind.

When I was in jr high 86-88, McKinley Middle and Istrouma were the top dogs for Magnet Middle Schools. And Sherwood was the other one with gifted program.

Is it still Magnet? If so, then I would say yes. In my day it was a great education and performing arts program like McKinley.

I take it it's not a magnet/BRHS feeder anymore.

I thought the physical location was destroyed by a fire.

So where is the "new" Istrouma Middle?

I went there for middle school. Back then the neighborhood it was in was pretty rough (and that was late 80s/early 90s). Can only imagine how bad that neighborhood is now. We used to walk track for P.E. and hear gunshots in the distance.

As far as I know, it won't open until Fall 2018 and will start off as a small magnet middle school program on the campus of Istrouma High.

Not a great area of town (understatement) but the school board and city are putting a lot of energy into rebuilding and rebranding Istrouma High. I hope they can pull it off.
