I live a little south of Jacksonville (Fleming Island). If I were single and no kids (I have kids), I'd live close to the beaches. Jax Beach or Ponte Vedra. That's where all the best bars and places to meet other single people.

If you want quiet and laid back, I'd live where I do in FLeming Island.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT live in North Jacksonville or the Westside.

Fleming Island is nice. Have family there. You're right about the westside but Ortega is a very very nice place to live.

I live in Jacksonville. It's a great place to live, IMO. We love it here.

Good areas to live are San Marco, Avondale, Riverside, Downtown, Mandarin, Hodges/Kernan area, and the beaches (Atlantic, Neptune, Jax, Ponte Vedra). Just don't go Orange Park, Westside, or Northside (anything north of downtown) and you'll be fine.

There is usually plenty to do here, you just have to look a little harder than in some bigger cities. St. Augustine is an awesome town too.

If you're a football fan, I'd invite you to consider becoming a high school football official. The Jacksonville association is one of the best in the state. NFOA.org for more information if you're interested.

Honestly I go as little as possible. It's not a great city never been a fan. Tampa, Miami, Orlando..all better big cities to me

I completely disagree with your post. I hate Orlando, never cared for Tampa (there are some nice areas, but as a whole I don't like it), and Miami is really only good for weekend trips, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Boom Roasted, There are parts of Tampa that are nice, but there are many more areas that are trashy. Just do your research.

If you are coming to Jax, do whatever it takes to live at the beach, you will not be disappointed

I appreciate everyone's input. I did take the job and have 5 weeks to find a place. Looking in the Jax Beach area.

Rent an apartment in jax beach on 3rd st. Tons of stuff to do there especially since you're single. There are some newer places for rent in the town center that you could look at as-well.
