Just was diagnosed last week.
Started Metformin last week, bought a meter and started a low carb diet same day.
My issue was that they found glucose in my urine, which led to the blood tests and initial diagnosis. My problem was that I was always having to pee and I would wake up several times a night, and I was extremely thirsty at times.
My blood sugar was over 300 that day and my A1c was an 11.
So far with my meter I have averaged about 250. I am supposed to have a follow up and more bloodwork.
I am just worried that Metformin may not be enough.

I have it but I don't have to use a pump or take injections. Two Jamunet's per day; evening and morning.
I assumed it was me eating crap over the years; the doc said it's hereditary.
I gave up sweet tea which was very hard at first; it's nice to not have that nasty taste in my mouth from the sugar.
Choices have to be made; I can eat one bad thing per day.
If I eat candy bar, then no other sweets or white bread.
My softdrinks are Coke zero and pepsi zero.
If I drink any regulary sugared drinks now, I wanna gag.
On yeah; my dick got bigger and I sprouted more chest hair.

My A1Cs have seesawed the last three years. My work doctor said I was a diabetic and told me to see my primary. He wanted to retest in three months.
My doctor said I wasn’t diabetic (yet), but unlike half of Ascension Parish, I was better off because I knew what I was looking at.
He said no one has ever been cured of diabetes from pills. He put me on a diet/workout plan, and in three months, my numbers went from 6.3 to 4.9.
They would go up and down the next couple years, still not on meds.
Finally, Covid got here, all I did was eat and drink (I use to not drink very much, and had already cut a lot of sugars out of my diet).
My last check up, my A1C’s were a 7.0.
My doctor put me on meds a few weeks ago. Like I said already, I didn’t have much sugar in my diet already, so now I’m watching carbs.
For dinner tonight, I had red beans and cauliflower rice.
I dropped $400 at Costco yesterday for just my diet, low carb, low sugar.
I do light exercise now, bicycling, walking, etc

Since I started the Bernstein diet 14 years ago, my highest A1C, which happened only once, was 5.3. I only see the doctor one time a year, but for the last three years, I’ve registered a 4.7, 4.8 and a 4.7 two months ago.
I am not on a pump. I’ve been insulin dependent since I was 11, but have never been on a pump. I do use the Dexcom G6, but I just started that two years ago. I still ran A1Cs in the 5.2 range before the Dexcom.

To be fair, I had gotten out of the habit of checking my blood sugar. I just knew I ate decent enough (except quarantine snacks ) and exercised. But, since I knew I had a physical coming up in a couple months, I went all in, so to speak. Lost my Quarantine weight and then some, cut out every single carb I could and for a two months, much to my families chagrin, existed on tuna fish, green beans, steak, chicken, boiled eggs, sweet peas, broccoli and asparagus. I wanted to see exactly what I could do. Started checking again morning and night... rarely was my fasting BS not 74 or 75, bedtime was generally in the 80s.. and yes... I had more than a couple of lows. Those are absolutely the worst feeling things ever.
I'm more reasonable now. My wife did make me realize that, while I was trying to be healthy, maybe I was obsessing just a tad.

Ok, I'm not diabetic but was diagnosed prediabetic. My suggestion is take stock of what you eat and cut way back on carbohydrates. I eat a bowl of strawberries and bananas with milk or 1/2 and 1/2 w Spleanda for breakfast. Eat a big bowl to fill you up. For lunch be modest in what you eat. No bread. I usually eat lunch meat turkey or ham with a pickle and cheese. When you finish lunch you should still be a little hungry but otherwise satisfied. For dinner eat a normal meal without seconds. Limit pasta, bread etc. And for a night snack I go back to a small bowl of berries (instead of ice cream) like breakfast. Walk at least 150 minutes a week. You will lose weight and reduce your blood sugar. I lost about 45 pounds doing this. The key is to eat modest meals.

Exercise and eat right is how to manage it. Pretty simple. Don't forget your meds either.

Not sure where you are from but Ashley Hill in Ruston, La is one of the best around. I know a couple people with type 2 that see her and she has done wonders for them.
My son has Type 1 and she figured out the right dosage and type of insulin for him and he rarely has highs or lows.
She's also easy on the eyes...

your doctor probably tests your feet with a plastic thread at your annual checkup. this evaluates your loss of feeling. at some point you will begin to have a burning sensation on your feet which over time progresses up to your knee. the burning is permanent 24 hours per day. control the a1c. getting old sucks with burning feet
