It’s way more scary outside the woods than in the woods unless you are in grizzly territory.

I used to go all the time. The scariest events that ever happened were regular nature noises in the dark that my imagination played up to be something bigger than it was. I did have to help a hobbled friend (broke his ankle) out of about 3 miles of trails to a service road once. That was the absolute worst time I've ever had in the woods.

Alone? No. But when I was a preteen into my teenage years we used to go camping all the time in the woods behind my pa pas house. It was me and my cousins and we had an uncle who scared the shite out of us a few times.

Well, we were pretty sure it was him, but he never admitted to it. But someone was shooting us with a bb gun.

I go spend a week or two on the Appalachian Trail every year but there are usually people to avoid. If I really want to be alone I hike the Black Creek Wilderness area of the Black Creek Trail in the DeSoto NF. No people or cell service to be had. Keep a noisemaker in my pocket and a Garmin inReach to keep the wife informed of my location.
To answer your question, I don't think I am a psychopath.
