Quit that and another addiction a little over a year ago, slipped back into drinking about 3 months ago or so.

For me, it was/is a pint of vodka, I get real bad cold sweats, can't sleep a lick, and can't eat whatsoever but other than that I don't really get much else. Docs did put me on some medicine for PTSD I can look when I get home maybe you could try that. It did help me.

I believe in you.

How sick did you get in the days after?

i went from drinking 4-5 nights a week (1-2 nights getting hammered) to quitting cold turkey. I don't remember ever getting sick or having withdrawals.

I haven't had anything to drink in 15 years, now if i could quit dip like that.

The best way to not get drunk is to not start drinking that day. Some of us can't usually do a glass or 2 of wine and call it quits. Try to tale it down to your normal amount 4 days a week, then 3, then 2, etc.

Try and eliminate the liquor nights.

I don't think I ever got sick when I stopped for an appreciable amount of time, but I don't think I've drank every night consistently since college, if even then, so maybe my body is used to it.

No problem. I just remembered it's called Quietapine (I think that's how you spell it).

Of course, listen to your doc but I recommend starting LOW. It knocks you tf out and will have you struggling the next day. But when I got my dosage right, it helped. Didn't have any night terrors while on it.

Yes, for health reasons, not because of excessive drinking.

If you have withdrawal symptoms it's serious and you need medical attention.

I like me a couple cocktails just about every night after dinner and have been doing that for quite a while now.

For several years I would give up all alcohol for Lent just for the hell of it since I'm in no way a religious person. Long story short, I suffered absolutely no ill effects from abstaining from drinking alcohol the entire period of Lent.

The only thing I noticed was when I went back to having a couple cocktails a night, the first few nights saw me getting a slight buzz since I hadn't had any alcohol in quite a while.

About 1.5-2 bottles of wine per night. Half a bottle of liquor if it’s a liquor night.

i wouldn't cold turkey it, if i were you... withdrawals from alcohol and benzodiazepines can actually kill you, unlike opiates and stimulants

Those MFing night terrors are serious. Sorry you deal with that too. Waking up yelling/shaking is for the birds.

I too give it up every year for lent and can’t recall ever getting or feeling sick and I’d consider myself a heavy drinker.

Yeah they are. I don't wish them on anyone. My dad has them too, I remember being younger and hearing him scream bloody murder and thinking he was crazy. Then I started getting them and realized how bad it is.

Funny story though, my ole lady was at my house one night, and I didn't think to tell her about it, ended up having one. She ended up leaving that night after I woke up. Said I scared her too bad she thought I was possessed :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

The challenge isn't quitting for a few days to detox. It's the long term sobriety that is what is hard to attain. You have to want to be sober more than you want to drink every single day. That sounds really simple but it's so hard to put into practice. There's nothing wrong with getting help, going to AA.

Oh yeah she did. We are having a son in April. I'm pretty stoked. Naming him after my AG.

Glad to hear it isn't terribly frequent. Definitely talk to your doc. I didn't believe they would actually help until they did. Just wish I could kick the bottle. Not trying to die young. Not trying to die from Dts either though.
