If I knew I wouldn't end up on the news or the front page of the paper id just put " shooting this dog if nobody adopts her before next weekend" on the OT
That's my thinking with the ones in the pd. There are more than enough puppies needing homes so let the dog shelters do their jobs with the homeless ones.

The shelter here is a vet clinic as well
Much better and more likely that I'd consider.

They are beautiful. I had 2 of my own. When I put my last one down I didn't want another dog. People down the street had some labradoodle and lab mixed puppies they were giving away. Needless to say we got one less than 2 years ago. Love that dog to death.

Yep.

The lady I got her from told me she'd take her back if I didn't want her. Calling her bluff right now.

Can't understand why people jump through hoops to "adopt" when there are free puppies in the paper and on craiglist weekly.

I would fall into this, I deal with breed rescues and you aren't getting one from us unless you jump through a lot of hoops. I have been declined in the past from other breed rescues and I foster for others of the same breed because I wasn't a match for the dogs they had.

We do it because we want specific dogs going to specific homes. We don't want dogs being put in places where they come back to us.

I am a herding dog person, I want that type of dog. It would be nice to save a shelter mutt, but that isn't what I want out of my pet.

You also don't typically find the type of dog I want in shelters that make it on a kill list because we get them out of there and into our breed specific rescue groups as quickly as we can if someone else doesn't snatch them up first. Also the only way you find them cheap on craigslist is if they are backyard breeders and I don't support those people.

The other good thing about going through these groups is they very much pay attention to personalities and match them to the people that applied. A high strung agility type dog won't be placed with an elderly couple.

rescue dogs are awesome. Don't fixate on the puppy thing they're a lot of trouble and a full grown dog is still a great pet. Got my lab about 7 years ago full grown. One of the best dogs I've ever had.

People who want puppies from shelters make me wary, you tend to see those brought back in when the cute stage ends... A full grown dog is the better way to go because you can spend some time and see if the personality meshes and sometimes you can find some that are pretty well trained which usually doesn't lead to people bringing them back.

Adopt a greyhound! They are awesome, come basically trained (mine has never used the bathroom in the house) and are very loving. They are low key, lazy, and easy to take care of for the most part plus it's freaking awesome to watch them run.

Labradoodles and golden seem cool, but what some people are asking for them is asinine. I'm not paying 1,500+ for a dog

Get a poodle and a lab/golden from a shelter and create your own. Which is sadly what some people are doing and then charging people the amount you are talking about...

Yes, its very similar to going to someone's house and picking the pup out.

Only diff is instead of a litter of pups all same the place you will visit will have all kinds different type mutts.
Sorta like jail.... Certainly you are bright enough to figure the rest out.

I did. Boxer from a Boxer rescue. Had her 8 years. Had to put her down last December due to cancer. Will go the rescue route again.

Any pics? I'm looking for a dog. I live in a small house with a small fenced in backyard. If it sheds, it would have to be outside most of the time on account of my so's allergies. I also work full time so it'd be alone in that backyard a lot.
