This reminds of the South Park where the hippies all talk about how evil capitalism is, but when Stan presses them for what the system should be, they basically come up with capitalism

What type of system would be a more fair society? Do we even want a more fair society?

Fair is being rewarded for both working hard and making smart decisions.

That is what we have now.

So are you saying the model we use today was created to combat the early insides we had as a whole? I mean I agree our model is the best of its kind no doubt and I’m not saying this model can’t work, I was just curious to know if a different economic model existed that limited inidivdual power, corporate power, and limited according unneeded personal wealth

Don’t worry Dude I understand this completely but I guarantee you I can always, year after year, find a cheaper replacement for my employees if I wanted to. We over pay everyone, no one makes less than 45k, half day fridays, holiday, benefits, all that Jazz. But if I wanted to I could pay 2 replacements 20,000 a year each, no benefits and get the same amount of work. They is always someone out there willing to do your job for less. Most people wanna think they do the job the best, but 99% if the time the replacement is just as good if not better because they want to go above and beyond the first year

No not like communism, I’ve already said that. Please stop trying so hard to make what I say fit in an already existing model

You really think everyone who works hard and is intelligent gets rewarded? What kind of nurtured life did you grow up in?

You'll be out of business soon.

Wages aren't arbitrarily set.

There is your problem, you are working for free, most people get paid for the 40+ hours they work.

We had unregulated capitalism up until 1930. Employer abuse was rampant and there was no social safety net during crises.

no social safety net is wrong, there was no governmental safety net, but there were multitudes of safety nets, elk club, woodmen of the world, churches, charities.... WHo were probably much more efficient at helping their fellow member's than the current system.
I would argue hard that as our economy matured over time and there was more competition bought into the market place we would be better off and rise as an economy. much like what we are seeing with china today.
quote:

n those 154 years there were 7 "depression" level economic crises. This does not count recessions as both eras had relatively the same business cycle of recessions.
yes but they were all much faster, the great depression was so bad because of the safety nets implemented by FDR there are many economist that will argue that the safetynets made the great depression much longer and the only thing that prevents fdr from going down as one of the worst presidents in the history of the usa is the lend lease program and wwII. So if we didn't have it, would we have more down times, absolutely but we would also have the same amount of good and great times in the economy we have just smoothed it out a bit.
quote:

Gov't has a role in managing our economy. The problem is people tend to want to expand that role in ways that hurt more than help

What role is that what do they do more efficiently? some of the best growth in our economy was when jackson got rid of the fed.
The government also getting off the gold standard was very problematic and helped spur the depression.

Depends on what they're doing.

If you want to be rewarded, find an occupation that rewards.

Man I’m sorry you went to a bad school. You should have inferred that what I meant is you earn x amount for the owner of the company but get paid a fraction of that

Can you explain your thinking on this? How is a system that we work most of our existence by far the most moral system? I'm not asking you whats better: communism, socialism, or capitalism. I asking for a new system of existence.

Any other system you exchange fairness for freedom.

Some jobs are needed that do not reward. Unless you are willing to admit you believe inferior people are among us, some people who could do your job will have to do a lesser job

Yea I know, that’s why I said that’s not one of the normal 3 you think of. Is there a model that freedom and fairness do not compete?

Is this one of these threads where the OP asks the OT a generic question, then when people respond they tell us all our answers are wrong?

If so, I do not want to participate, thus giving the OP the attention they crave so desperately.
