Anyone have a Press Pass? Looking to gear up for the riots

With the Sterling findings coming out soon (hopefully), I am looking to get a press ID for photographing the events.
I have found a couple sites that issue "Press Passes", but I don't know how legit they are, they want money to issue you a pass.
Anyone here work for the Advocate? I am wondering if I can get a free lance press pass from them. I know their images are basically taken by the reporter with a simple point and shot. Their more important images come from the AP (and other press outlets), or by the handful of photographers they actually have on staff.

Why would you need press credentials for this? Just get a camera plant yourself in the middle of North BR.

I have been reading up on it. With Press Credentials, it can get you places past the police line (unless I step one foot on Airline Hwy
)

I want to become one, but just a freelance photographer. I have actually shot for DIG magazine once and was offered another assignment, but nothing more. It's kind of a joke paper.

Much better chance of getting in as a freelance video photog more so than print these days. Thing is you most likely need to own your own equipment.
