Has rotator cuff surgery few years ago in Houston. In addition to regular PT, I tried the aquatic therapy in a pool couple days a week. Made a big difference. Wished I had done the aquatic when I had knee surgery. The pool really helps.

Good luck.

9Fiddy nailed it! Excellent advice! I'm 72, tore 3 of 4 rotator cuff muscles in fall on concrete. Blew out labrum, and had frozen shoulder. Oddly, no arthritis observed! Surgery early August, and currently doing my PT work. Still aches more than pains, but trouble sleeping flat in bed. Thank God for recliner! Amazing how much range of motion has been restored after a few weeks of therapy! Hadn't bought a new set of irons in 15 years! I fell on a Friday, they arrived the following Monday! They are my inducement to healing well!

Complete Shoulder replacement April 29.

15 P T Sessions before Surgery (I think this was the key for zero pain and quick recovery

4 weeks of P T, finished.

Zero Pain

It freaks me out too. Tell them it's your first time and you're spooked and they'll load you so full of dope before they flip the switch you won't care. and as someone else said that's how it goes - it's like one second went by when they knock you out for 30 minutes-hour.

Had surgery for a torn labrum in HS.

These things are absolutely worth the cost:

Yes. Both shoulders. Both started as rotator tears. Over the years they got worse. Now I have had Full replacement L and full reversal R. Ask me anything.

Have had both shoulders replaced, the left one twice , and can tell you get to a good orthopedic shoulder specialist as fast as you can.

Shoulder problems from HS football. Put off getting them fixed for way too many years. By the time I got them scoped and cleaned way too much damage done. Only choice was replacement/rotator cuff surgery.
Don’t wait until yours gets to the point mine did.

Thats the rt shoulder ball as well as some of the bigger loose bodies floating around in the socket.

Yes, several and there's some good advice in here. The first one causes the most personal concern.

Just keep in mind that if you're not going to rigorously follow the physical therapy process, don't bother doing the surgery as it won't work.

You'll be fine as long as you do that.

There is a chilling sleeve, that insurance companies don't pay for, that chills and applies pressure to the surgical site. When my wife had rotator cuff surgery, we got her this from the home health care company, costs $300, and she didn't need the pain pills.

Anyone had rotator cuff surgery or other shoulder surgery?

I’m on day 12 of shoulder surgery recovery right now. Had a torn labrum (11-1) for 2.5 years and eventually bit the bullet and decided to have it. Ended up needing that repaired, bicep tendonesis (?) repaired, and rotator cuff repaired. So the surgery was more extensive than he was expecting.

Overall it hasn’t been overly bad. I stayed ahead of the pain for the first five days or so, and now basically just take ibuprofen if it gets too bad. And all in all the pain isn’t bad at all, it’s just more of a constant feeling of discomfort. And the hardest part by far for me is the boredom that comes with not being able to do much and the mental aspect of not being able to use my dominant arm (wiping your arse with your off hand is no easy feat).

I know I’ll be glad I got it done. But it’s tough feeling useless and a total a mindfrick for me knowing I’ll be in this sling for another 4-5 weeks.

Another hard part is that I do have a little bit of use in my arm. So I find myself wanting and inadvertently trying to use it here and there, and then a streak of pain jolts down my arm and I go back to acting right. But knowing I CAN use my arm some, but that I’m not allowed to, sucks.

Thankfully, my wife has been on point and a fricking rockstar taking care of me and helping me do shite (get dressed, cleaning myself, taking care of the house/kids/etc). Oh, I was finally able to take a fricking shower this past Saturday (you have to wait 10-14 days before you can), and it was amazing.

I've had 3 and need shoulder replacements now. Get a recliner if you don't have one because that's what you will be sleeping in for a while. Also I had an ice machine to wrap around my shoulder....was helpful with sleeping.

A few questions.

Have you considered conservative therapy via Physical Therapy. I’m not talking “exercising on your own a few times”. I’m taking therapy 2-3 times a week for 4-6 weeks with home exercises as well?

If it isn’t a full thickness tear the likelihood of recovery with some dedication is high.

Frozen shoulder. Put to sleep for manipulation. Rehab is the worst pain I've ever had. About a month out right now.

I've had five different types of surgeries and never had this much pain afterwards.

Just a little update, went and seen Dr mcgough at Andrews. I have a damn frozen shoulder. Got a steroid shot in my shoulder and therapy for the next 6 weeks. We will then see how it is and if minimal or no progress it will be surgery where he said he will essentially break it loose holy frick

I tore left RC stem to stern, they had to open me up, I had about a 10" scar and weeks in a brace holding it up. The lowering of my arm when they took the brace off was extremely painful, all that scar tissue had to be torn.

This was in 1978, hopefully they have better methods to treat this now.
