Has anyone had luck with getting a new passport recently? If so, can you please tell me how??

I’ve got quite the emergency on my hands for international travel scheduled within 4 weeks and can not get anyone on the phone or a reply to an email.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Most of the local Post Offices are not offering passport services "due to COVID" since last year.

You have to go to one of the hubs. Like New Orleans or Atlanta. You need an appointment first. Most appointments take six weeks or more.

How do I know? Just had friends cancel a pre paid trip to Aruba after he found out his passport was expired and he tried to get it renewed.

ETA. After seeing post above, Baton Rouge may be offering passports. I forget we are the Capital City allegedly. My buddies situation happened in GA and he had to drive to Atlanta.

You are screwed.

My sons passport took 8 months during Covid….. and at the time they weren’t doing rush. We ended up canceling a vacation. We had given ourselves 6 month. We applied a week before the shut down. You may just be SOL.

I'll take your place.

My passport could use the stamp.

Call your local congressman. A friend in a similar situation called his rep and the passport arrived within the week via Next Day mail. It was pretty impressive.

I applied for a passport in early April at a post office. Opted for the normal delivery (not expedited) took me about 10 weeks to get it in the mail.

I went to Atlanta to get an expedited passport for a job and got it the same day, but I had paper work to prove it. I think it cost $260.
But that was 10 years ago, no idea in "the age of covid" if they are doing it now.

Just heard they are closing the southern border again, so if your driving south, you may have to wade the river with everybody else.

I used These guys in Houston on the recommendation of a friend that has a company in China.

Renewed mine in Sept 2020. Got my new passport back in 7 days or so. Easy and worth the fee.

Give em a call and they will tell you their current turnaround time.

Some places are faster than others. Do not go to a post office. There is a passport application office on LSU's campus. Give them a try.

Closing southern border? My trip is to Mexico for my wedding. Long story short, my passport was destroyed recently and I realize I’m out of time. Clearly desperate.

LINK

The State Department does offer an expedited service option to reduce that processing time to 4-6 weeks (due to delays related to COVID-19), for an additional fee. If you are traveling internationally in less than 2 weeks you must schedule an appointment with the New Orleans Passport Center.

I’ve tried everything I can but contacting reps. I’ll be doing that this afternoon.

Their line to schedule appointments goes straight to hold tone then hangs up. No answers to countless emails. At this point I’m just trying to talk to a real person to see what my options are.

My brother, call Texas Tower in the link above. They will tell you your options.

Good luck.

Definitely reach out to your US Congressman. Should be easier than U.S. Senators - Cassidy and Kennedy.
