The challenge with being a florist is finding enough volume of sales

This is pretty much the challenge of any business. Sales equals money.

You need a license just to arrange some flowers in a vase and sell it. It's the dumbest thing in the world.

Depending on how specialized they wanted to get, it could be really simple or quite the undertaking. You could buy basic flowers from a distributor like Walmart, Winn Dixie, or Albertsons does and coast. Or you could get really specialized and go for the big bucks. That would be a daily grind. I'm talking about daily work, not dealing with the government. That can be hell for any business.

My wife's brother and sis in law did. It was a nightmare that was a lot of work for sure which did not yield a return. They got audited after the shop closed up and paid dearly.

My wife, fiance' at the time, used to own a gift store and did flowers on Valentine's and Mother's Day only. She would make bank on those two days. The profit on flowers is unbelievable. I couldn't believe it when she told me what she was paying vs. what she was charging, and she was one of the cheaper stores in her town. If you're buying flowers, you're getting a 12 inch cock broken off deep in your a-hole, FYI.

The problem is unless you're hooked up with a few funeral homes and wedding planners that will throw your name around, things are pretty lean the rest of 363 days of the year.

The flower dept at the grocery store has the highest margins of any dept. I don't think you'll ever get rich, but you can make some money.

I wouldn't personally like to have an inventory that will die in a few weeks if I don't sell it.

Make sure the card for the other woman doesn't go on the flowers for the wife.

Margins are fricking great probably some in the best of any retail business lots of perishable write offs also. Hell my grandmother would decorate a church for a noon wedding sell the same flowers again for a second wedding that night. You are competing against grocery stores for flowers weddings and funerals and delivery that's where the money is plus telafloral ftd and a few other wire services help also.

Also, if someone calls asking about buying flowers for their mom that's in the hospital, tell them "Don't do it, these flowers will be dead in three days...just like your mom."

I will be nice in this situation. If I play my cards right, I might get the business when she does crook.

If I would extend the business to a landscaping business then maybe so.

It's on purpose, referencing an epic thread that I think has since been deleted.
