Lived there for 3 years. Amazing place.
I see some 3 year stints in here. Military? I did 3 1/2 years in Anchorage with Uncle Sam. Enjoyed my time there. Anchorage is about as close to living in any mid sized city in the U.S.. Of course most of those cities dont have the scenery that Anchorage does. The weather and daylight thing take some getting used to but you adjust.

I budgeted a winter trip to Hawaii or California, which went a long way to making it tolerable for my wife.
This seems the way to go if you can pull it off. How long you talking? 2 months?

Pro Tip for potential AK residents or even visitors:
The natives there are (rightly) very proud of their heritage.
Make sure to use the word “Eskimo” anytime possible.
They wear it as a badge of honor and will be very appreciative of you.
You’re welcomed in advance!

We did 2 weeks. Not really because of the cold but the darkness. Generally week after Christmas and first week of the new year.
Anchorage doesn’t get near as cold as the interior. Several days a year it was colder in Louisiana than in Anchorage.

Pretty much. The capital issue is more of a sore spot here since folks cant drive all the way here from other regions.
That seems like it used to be a bigger deal than it is now and going forward with technology. Everything can be done online now.

You would think, but folks in Anchorage act like Juneau is Siberia.

We had a severe thunderstorm roll through here about 3 hours ago, broke one of the cruise shiips from its moorings. It was a nice day previously.
Looks like a beautiful summer day in AK!!

Don’t you live in Juneau? Why are there no roads in our out? Is it because it’s surrounded by Canada or something?

Lol my wife is native and they use it all the time.
Only the educated ones get offended at the terminology

Mountains, glaciers and sea make it prohibitive. The waterway it would follow is a steep sided fjord much of the way... The cost would be high and the environmentalists hate the idea.

I worked up there off and on for a few years. Personally I’m not a huge fan of fan. The weather mostly sucks even in the summer. The people are fricking weirdos. You kinda have to be to move up there in the first place though. But they’re good people and really hard working I suppose. And when the weather actually does clear up it’s one of the most beautiful and untouched places on the planet.

Yep. Most fly in or take a ferry. Closest road out is 80 miles away.

A Baton Rouge kid owned a coffee shop in Juneau until recently.

There was a guy who owned an ice cream shop/coffee shop near the High School (Coppa) from BR. Used to talk to him quite a bit. Sold it a couple years ago to his employees.
Many Louisiana kids come up here in the summer to work tourism jobs, mainly college students.

Is it true that there is no border patrol on Route 98?
