Yes. Did a septoplasty with a FESS. Huge mistake. Miserable frickin recovery and it didn't do shite but switch which nostril I can breathe out of. 5 days of sleeping upright and breathing only through mouth, so dry mouth and chapped lips. Norcos didn't do shite m.
My surgery took 5 hours, which is fricked. Said I bled a lot and they kept having to stop. I think he just aborted and that's why I still can't breathe. Breathing was amazing for about a week

It grows back in 4-5 years.

This, but I'm glad I did it. Broke my nose twice as a youth without getting it reset. Haven't had a single sinus infection since and I would get one a month before. Recovery was painful and miserable for about a week but in the end it was well worth it.
Same here.
Sucks but it's worth it.
You'll absolutely LOVE the raccoon eyes if they have to rebreak it like they did mine.

is it normal to have a foul smell when you blow your nose after the surgery? Kinda freaking me out.

doubt it's a big deal. lot of blood-infused mucus up there. you will be blowing nasty shite for the next few months

My recovery took about 3 days but didn't go back to work for 7 because of the blood. Not much pain so I only used one of the Loratab prescribed. They normally don't use gause to pack it anymore and now use some sort of powered starch that disolves away on its own.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, as you have a certain amount of drainage any time you have surgery and it is often a little funky smelling....
if you get fever or anything like that, don't ignore it, though...

Chances are you need a turbinate reduction. A lot of (especially older) doctors are very hesitant to do much with the turbinates as they would literally remove them with scissors back in the day. This often led to too much of the turbinate being removed, which resulted in empty nose syndrome, something that's often worse than what the patient came in with. I don't think it's uncommon to have a turbinate procedure performed and it ultimately not be enough. That being said, it's definitely better for too little to be removed as opposed to too much.
Nowadays, doctors are better trained in regards to the turbinates and better tools/techniques exist (ask about the microdebrider).
I went through the same thing. PM me if you want a doctor recommendation or more information.

It's gonna hurt. You'll get pain meds...and you will wanna take them. Be in bed for several days. Any change in elevation like standing up or sitting down causes a tremendous amount of pressure on your sinuses. I passed out when they pulled my packing out but idk if it's common.

I wasn't necessarily in pain just crazy uncomfortable due to the packing in the nose. I had mine done Thursday morning and was counting down the minutes to get that shite removed on Monday I believe. Sleeping was a nightmare.
Taking out the stitches was terrible, one of the worst pains I've experienced although very brief.
I really haven't noticed a change for the better tbh.

You'll just break it again.

Had it done summer of 2013 and it has since gone back to its original shitty deviation. The first year after it was amazing, I could breathe again. But now it feels like a total waste of time, money, and pain.
The worst part was the week "recovery." First couple days I couldn't have enough pain meds. The worst part was the discomfort of all the splints/gauze/whatnot all stuffed to what feels like your brain. And to the idiot on the first page who was puking dried blood you're supposed to sleep sitting up the first week.
Getting the splints out wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe. In fact I didn't even realize there were stitches until afterwards when I'd pick my nose and a couple stitch remnants were left. Oh and sneezing after is an insane sensation. The booger/scabs are HUGE. Like how was that not in my eye socket huge.
