You want a Belgian malinois. There isn’t a better dog for the job.

That being said, have it professionally trained and be prepared to exercise and work it. They are literally the most active dogs in the world.

If you want something a bit less intense, a working line German shepherd will do as well.

Edit: Saw you ended up going German Shepherd. You made the right decision.
Not saying Catahoulas aren't affectionate towards family, but I don't think it is possible to beat the bond between a shepherd and his owner(s). Considering this and the fact that he's looking for somewhat of a guard dog, shepherds really can't be beat imo as long as he's ok with some shedding and a little work.

I'm not saying other breeds aren't capable of doing the job, but there's a reason why just about anyone selling serious protections dogs will almost exclusively use German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois (basically a leaner and less hairy German shepherd with a higher drive/energy level for the most part).
Get a German Shepherd and thank me later. Yes, they require some attention and exercise, but for the most part it's perfectly manageable. Just keep it in mind that these dogs will crave human interaction and mental stimulation. Involve them in as many activities as possible.

Considering what you're looking for (and as long as you can handle some shedding), I don't think they can be beat. Just the presence of one is enough to scare off 99% of criminals.
Sorry to hear that. I would look into fish oil, personally. Might not be a miracle cure or anything but from what I understand it's worth a shot.

Chances are you need a turbinate reduction. A lot of (especially older) doctors are very hesitant to do much with the turbinates as they would literally remove them with scissors back in the day. This often led to too much of the turbinate being removed, which resulted in empty nose syndrome, something that's often worse than what the patient came in with. I don't think it's uncommon to have a turbinate procedure performed and it ultimately not be enough. That being said, it's definitely better for too little to be removed as opposed to too much.

Nowadays, doctors are better trained in regards to the turbinates and better tools/techniques exist (ask about the microdebrider).

I went through the same thing. PM me if you want a doctor recommendation or more information.
