Good job on focusing in on the real heart of this thread...I wish I could believe you are just trying to be funny...

In the 7th grade I had a girl classmate walk up to me and say she was going to commit suicide that weekend and being a 7th grader I said don't do that. Came to class Monday morning and found out she walked on stage at a concert at a local park and shot herself with a .22 on the stairs up to the stage.

Well I know it's hooked into the boards above the hmsheetrock but I couldn't reach up and grab the fan and just swing from it without ripping it out.

Not sure how a fan fixture would hold someone's weight like that. The ones that mount in between joist are just thin galvanized bars and plastic.

To be fair, I am curious about the fan thing as well but you are correct this isn't the thread for it.

I've never installed a ceiling fan that I didn't have at least a couple of good wood screws holding the mount to a decent piece of wood. The older ones were a lot heavier than the the latest models and took a more solid mount too.

Not sure, this was 2002 and I didn't take the time to study the fan or its mount. My bad.....

Do you mind me asking if your friend was from Folsom La? I knew someone that hung himself the exact same way you described in his dorm.

Don't mind, he was not. This happened at Barksdale AFB and he was from Ohio.

If I'm gonna commit suicide, I'm not gonna jump from a bridge or building, not gonna shoot myself in the head, and for damn sure not gonna hang myself.

I'm gonna go buy a large amount of heroin and OD on it.
