Called yesterday to reactivate mine for football season (last year was our first season with this thing and it works great)....,when I called yesterday, Dish lady told me they're switching to the Eastern Arc and that a tech would have to come out. After unsuccessfully trying to charge me $150 for that visit, she waived the charge.

Anyway, I'm still confused, as it's a portable automatic antenna...what exactly does the tech have to do? ...an actual physical hardware adjustment to the receiver or Tailgater antenna itself?

Update: as I somewhat expected, the Cust Service rep(s) I spoke to this past weekend while activating my Dish/Tailgater that told me a tech visit was necessary didn't know WTF they were talking about....the tech came by today, didn't have to do anything, my service just needed to be activated, which could have been done over the phone when I first called to do exactly that. He apologized for the inconvenience and admitted that the service reps didn't know what they were talking about.

So if a rep tells you a tech is necessary for activating your Tailgater, tell him/her that she is wrong and to activate your service.

As I told the reps on the phone initially, a tech would only be necessary if you have a mounted dish at home...as we all know, the Tailgater is automatic, no adjustment(s) needed.

No clue - always wanted one of these when I was driving cross country. How much did it cost?

Dunno.

We got something like that a year or two ago. Auto dish thingie is awesome to have. Just place the dome on top of the RV and you are pretty much done.

$350 or so for the equipment...I don't have dish at home, so we just start a pay-as-u-go plan for football season and deactivate it In The offseason

Satellite aims itself automatically, pretty easy and user-friendly

There's a different brand out that has setups in the larger truck stops called Vu-Cube and such - if I ever have to go back to driving cross country hazmat again I'll definitely pick one up and figure out a way to use it. Would be awesome to have satt. tv. in a rig when parked.

I'm guessing I can use this at my tailgate? But after reading some replies it seems like it's for a RV? If the equipment is around 350,how much do you pay a month for services?

I'm following this, please let us know what the tech does. I planned on reactivating mine next weekend. I'm not paying for a tech to come out, that's bs.

It's not just for an RV.
350 for the satelite. 100 for the box and remote.

7$ a month and it sends your programming to you. On the months you don't use it, call and turn it off. When you turn it on you push ab 3 buttons with the remote and then you get tv.

We have had ours for 2 years and have been all over the gulf coast. Also in the backyard when we have people over for football games.

Not specifically for an RV...just a good product for traveling or tailgating ... Plug it in to power, connect to TV, and you're watching ESPN, etc within minutes....no aiming of the satellite and frustration that sometimes comes with that, the satellite antenna is completely automatic, you can't even see it inside the outer container.

The monthly price is whatever Dish package you want...we get the Top120+, which includes ESPN, 2, U, CST, SECnw, CBS/abc/NBc (and 100 other non-sports channels)...$59 per month, but only the 3 months of football season.... If you already have Dish at home, it would be nothing extra per month, you would just get your normal home package on that receiver/antenna

When u call to reactivate, and they try to charge you for tech visit, just say what I said: "uh, no, you're not charging me for a tech visit...changing Arcs sounds like yall's problem, not mine, you're not passing that cost onto me. My equipment that you sold me less than a year ago for $400+ works fine."

Tech is coming Tuesday, I'll let you know what he does. I assume just a minor adjustment to receiver and/or antenna.

Awesome!

That's why I didn't think it made sense neither. I can understand a mounted dish, but a dish specifically made to be portable shouldn't need any adjustments.

Thanks again, I will activate mine and setup in my back yard on Saturday and run my usual tailgating equipment tests before the season.

Thinking of purchasing the dish tailgater. Came across this old thread while researching it. Had a couple questions: I'm a dish subscriber so do I need the vip211 receiver or can I just take the vip722k from my bedroom when I go camping? If I can use this receiver, will I be able to jump to a second TV like the set up at my house? And will any of this increase my monthly bill?
