Yes. I graduated last August. I know perfectly well how hard it is to get a job when you have no experience in the industry, or even in general. I also know when I lowered my standards of what I expected, there were a lot more people willing to talk to me.

All you do is drop emojis in these threads. Do you care to articulate your position whatsoever, or is an emoji all you can handle?
As for his premise that the economy is better when you're spending $3.78/gallon, he isn't wrong. It would be ridiculous to argue that high gas prices would cause a great economy, but there isn't a time in your life where you've paid $3.50 for gas inside of a recession.

yep, at least in the short term, this is great for MOST of the countries economy.
consumers saved over $115 billion in gas LAST YEAR alone,so thats a lot of saved money that can be spent elsewhere.
in a way, all industries relies on oil in some form or another, so when oil prices go down, theoretically, that keeps the price of everything else nice and low ...which is absolutely great for the everyday consumer.
long term no one knows what will happen, regardless what any of these oil field baws attempt to guilt you to believe

I've never blamed that guy. He's just on the losing side right now when millions more are benefitting.

I don't know any oil workers because I'm not trash.

Why do you go to sport clips?

Unless you're EXTREMELY specialized, most of your work skills are transferable. The details of the job change, but your ability to lead, manage, and produce are 100% transferable to any field.

Saw this one on my fb:
I hate to see people lose their jobs but shite like that is ridiculous. If they're still losing homes and cars on $100k a year they need to look in the mirror.

My SonIL's are suffering greatly. They've gone from 200-220,000 a year to about 100,000 or less. My middle daughter has a new house she has never slept one night in here coz her honey had to go back to work in West texas. They r struggling to pay for an apt and a home here. She lost her vehicle. My youngest lost her home in Kilgore. It breaks my heart and although my cc bills have decreased due to gas prices and three vehicles needing fuel it's not worth it. I watch my children suffer weekly trying to keep up. It was so wonderful watching them buy new homes, new cars etc but to loose it is horrible. I know many have suffered these same losses. It breaks my heart watching their credit go to crap when they've worked so hard. Super sad.

Agreed.
Someone who had some kind of management duties in the oil field (even if not in the name but in duties) would probably of had a better chance at a management job then me a few months ago. Or probably even now still.

I'm not feeling sorry for anyone going from 200k to 100k. If they're losing shite, they didn't manage their money well

Gosh they should go ahead and apply for food stamps on that measly income

I don't understand the argument. Oilfield baw wants me to pay more for gas so he can have a job? This "downturn" seems more like oil correcting itself from the the boom it had the last several years. Shouldn't it settle at some point in the middle because people will be consuming more which will eventually increase demand? Or am I completely off base?

The good ones will be fine. Many of the most talented technical people are in upstream oil service. They can work pretty much anywhere. They won't be bathing in money like they were when it was booming, but they'll be fine.
The woo is me types who don't have a month of savings will have a hard time.
It's still very unfortunate that people are happy to see an industry struggle like this.

It's not ridiculous
Sure, I misunderstood. I thought you were trying to compare the public's reaction to this downturn with events in those fields, which would be ridiculous. I mean I get it, everyone buys gas and sees the price on a weekly basis, so they're much more involved in O&G than they are in the mining industry, but many people have taken it much further than a simple comment about saving a few bucks at the pump.
If I can get lumber cheaper than I usually buy it, I don't run to FB to brag about the low prices with snarky comments about people in logging getting what they deserve.

Obviously that is a troll post. IF not, screw them.

It depends.
I'm no expert on what drives oil prices but I know we have so much of it that we're running out of places to put it. I don't think people are necessarily driving more because a tank of gas is $40 cheaper but I could be wrong. Barring a war, I don't see it turning around any time soon.
You pay a whole lot for a whole lot of things so people can have jobs and the CEOs can be loaded. Gas just happens to be an extremely visible one.

I was told I was over qualified for some jobs even though I wasn't. Most have no idea what it is I did either.
Had a possible employer even get upset that I didn't fill out my previous income on the online application. Thought that may have been why I wasn't getting interviews.

Which of course means he saved no money but was spending it all as it came in.
I have a brother-in-law that's on his 3rd straight hitch off shore. He's working every hitch he possibly can because he says he's lost 2/3rd's of his salary last year. They also let the family car get repo'd because it was 4 payments behind, yet when he does finally get some time off he spends every night in the bar, buys sleeves upon sleeves of dip and spends money like it grows on trees. Meanwhile, his wife stays at home with their 4 kids cause they can't afford daycare, even when he was making good.
I'm not saying all oil field workers are like that but I'd venture to say more are than aren't. I have no sympathy for those like that at all...
