I don't get why you would broadcast that on social media. It's only going to go one of two ways.

Agreed.

I mean yeah I'm happy it's cheaper at the pump for me to fill up the jeep, but I've stressed over my job security before (rumors of our hospital closing) and am not so heartless as to celebrate others facing job struggles.

Yeah but if you lose your job you will have no problem finding another. Nurses always in demand.

These oilfield baws have no skills other than oilfielding.

And do you think the oil and gas industry exists in a vacuum? There's a ripple effect and lots of other businesses suffer in ways that you'll never even think of.

Oil should be $50/barrel and $2.00/gallon of gas all the time. I would be OK with that. But higher than $2.00/gallon is just abusing the American people.

Yeah, I don't think it's right to laugh at peoples financial issues. But the overly bleeding hearts on social media are bit much.

I don't think anyone is arguing that you should build up a savings for when your industry has a downturn, but to compare this to fishing, mining, manufacturing, etc. is a bit ridiculous.

As I said before, outside of finance and attorneys, no other industry seems to have to deal with people actively celebrating their demise. That is 100% happening in this area right now and it is absurd.

I'm not trying to insinuate that is the way everyone feels because surely it isn't, but it is happening and its pathetic.

Did you know it's actually not that easy to get a job in an industry in which you have no experience?

Meh. I just made this point in the other thread. When I come in offering high performance at a low cost because I'm out of work, I'm getting on somewhere.

Fair, but for a long time that was out of the US's control. The idea that the guy who bought the F250 is to blame for your expensive fuel is a bit disingenuous.

Had two former oilfield workers getting their haircuts before me today. Both bitching about the price of gas costing them their jobs. I'm talking tattoos, bad grammar, cajun SOB's. Not the sharpest tools in the shed. Both said, "I know y'all like y'alls cheap gas, but that cost me a lot of money." Then proceeds to mention that he doesn't have a vehicle because he totaled his truck and then got laid off so now he doesn't have money to fix it. Which of course means he saved no money but was spending it all as it came in. I can't even begin to express how sick I am of hearing this shite.
