I don't tithe, so I tip, big. What kind of small person holds back on $5 for a potential $15 tip for a $100 bill? Really, people...get your sh*t together. If you have the privilege, to have the means to eat out, share your prosperity with those putting their hands 2 inches from your f*king food. They may be servants, but you aren't royalty. Be a better person.

Tip culture is garbage in the US, I receive similar quality service in Canada and Europe, both where servers are paid an actual salary and they expect 10%, or 15% max.

I tip less than I used to because gen z is so lazy and they are the ones asking for the tips.
However, I’ve always tipped my barista at the coffee shop when I’m inside. I do t in the drive up because they seem to still think it’s Covid and hand the card machine out the window. Putting the card in is awkward, and I hate Covid reminders. I also think it’s gen z lazy. So I simply got no tip.
Last week I was out of state and went to a coffee shop drive through. They took my card, stuck in for me, then handed the machine back to me. I tipped. To me this is a much better method.

Using this logic, I’d rather tip the guy the handles my money or my doctor than a waiter

I’m richer than you and I’ve stopped tipping as much. It’s gotten out of hand.

Wait, so pay them more and still tip them? "An actual salary," is code for paying way too much for someone to bring you coffee with even fewer incentives than they have now.

Door Dash is broken. They calculate tip on amount of total versus distance traveled. Longer distance should be more regardless of food cost.

Tip culture --and this new tax law and the ever increasing pay apps asking for higher tips on everything -- is not going anywhere.
As more large investors consolidate ownership of Mom & Pop's restaurants into chains, they and their lobbyists have every interest in increased tipping (and untaxed tips).
Otherwise, their payrolls are responsible for attracting and keeping employees in a usually high stress job.
Tax Free Tips is perfect American legislation: the biggest financial beneficiaries are investors in consolidated food service businesses but the spin can be helping working folks.
