I bet 75%+ of stores that give me change use a pair of Fives instead of a $10 bill. Is this happening to anyone else?

Why would this be happening?

They became collector's items following the success of the Broadway hit "Hamilton."

People have been hoarding them like beanie babies.

Use of cash to purchase anything other than something at a fast food joint is becoming rare these days

yep, 10s arent as popular so they usually have few in registers to give out since they put certain amounts in the trays. $100 in 10s is 10 bills that you run out of fast breaking 20s, where $100 in 5s is 20 bills so that can last a long time making change.

often they start giving 5-10 in ones as change as well depending on how their drawer is set up and what they have left in it

Absolutely. I run a retail establishment and often have to add more fives in the 10s slot in the tills.
