There is a lot of money to be made in plants. But do you really want to work eleventy billion hours a year, nights, holidays, and half of your weekends?

It must suck to work 15 days a month and make 80 k a year.

It's the year 2014. Everybody and their dogs go to college. Soon most college degree will be equivalent to high school diploma.

Have no clue why people here hate on these guys so much.

I honestly wonder the same thing. It seems like an ok job, but some of them do seem really cocky like they are hot shite.

Pretty much any job that pays decent has workers who think they are all that. Professional, blue collar, white collar...

never said it wasnt....They get the hate because they come on here bragging about the 100k when they have to work 80 hours a week to get it.

There sure is a ton of hate for plant guys on this board.

Also a ton of misinformation on this topic. We may have a couple guys that work over 60 hours a week at our plant and they are the ones with the college degrees as in the chemical engineers.

As far as "working their life away", I would be willing to bet you we have MORE time off than most

I work in healthcare IS, which I understand is different from IT, but everyone on my project has a BS/BA, most also have an advanced degree.

turnaround

our turnarounds are handled by outside contractors.

I will not say some days during them we are required to step up but what jobs don't require a little extra now and then

I'm in IT and have owned my company for the past 17 years.

He's falling for the same old trap I've seen plenty of times.
Companies in need of the latest and greatest skill set will overlook the lack of a degree, but thats not the norm.

Yeah, MCSEs are tending bar right now.
