I absolutely love to give gifts to other people...especially those that might be less fortunate.

I do not like to receive gifts. It makes me feel awkward. I’d honestly rather that person spend the money on someone else. Does that make me an a-hole?

Tell them to spend it on me. Then we’ll all feel good

Yes and I remember as a kid at my grandparents house everyone opened their gift one by one. Hated it with everybody just awkwardly watching and having to act way too excited about getting the present. Even when I liked what I got I just am not the type to jump up and down about it.

I have a hard time faking enjoyment from receiving a shite gift.

I'm a woman...it is impossible for me to hate receiving gifts.

Hate it! But it's less about the gift and more about being the center of attention. We are expecting and are foregoing a shower because the thought of sitting there opening gifts in front of people gives me hives. I cant stand being the center of attention like that.

I do get uncomfortable receiving gifts unless it's from a client or sexual favors

I do not like to receive gifts either. There is nothing someone can give me that I need and would be just as happy if they did something else with the money.

I don't get what many gifts.. There are 6 people I get a gift from, which includes my mom who gives all her kids money. Then my two siblings exchange gifts, but we all spend around the same amount on each other's gift.. So really, it is kind of silly, but my sister likes the whole gift exchange and the "excitement" to see what everyone gives each other.. So whatever.

But I am right there with you.

I am exactly the same way...I really have to force myself not to appear unappreciative when people give me gifts. I actually thought I was the only one who feels that way.

When I was newly married, I told my in laws no gifts for Christmas. I asked politely and the first Christmas they must have had 20 gifts for me. A bunch of Clutter with LSU all over it. On the drive home from their house I threw it in a dumpster. My wife asked where it was when she arrived later at the house. I told her.
My inlaws and I have gotten along swimmingly since then.

Wow you are an a-hole. Could have at least given it away to someone else.

But not respecting someone's request is solid.

No. And I'm bitter when the gift sucks.

Some people enjoy giving gifts so you don't have to be a douche.. Just keep it somewhere and if they come around every once in awhile just show that you use it.. even if you don't.. At least do something to make them feel good.

Yeah, me too. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the gift...it’s just that I don’t get excited like I feel I should even if I really like the gift.

It was your first Christmas as their son in law. They likely just wanted to celebrate that or make you feel welcome. But you clearly are too much of an a-hole to see that.

Can't believe your wife didn't give you grief for throwing away gifts that her parents gave you.

If you ever get divorced, this will be one of the first things they mention to your wife. Remember what an a-hole he was that first Christmas? Guaranteed.
