I was looking at 2014 GMC Canyon for my father to get him out of his fullsize truck.

The dealer had a 2014 old body style and a 2015 new body style.

Do you live outside the US? 2014 Canyon was not a thing, and the old body style ended production in 2012.

It was June this year I looked for them.
I assumed it was 2014 because if it is a 2012 it's been sitting awhile and the dealer still wanted sticker price minus $500 rebate.
That one also had inline 5 over v-6.
A conworker has I-5 in his and he had a few recalls which Gm did fix.

I bought the new body style for my father it drives better, seems larger, and more comfortable.

You mean It WAS superior to the Tacoma. The '16 Taco blows the Colorado away. It's a good looking truck, I'll give you that but the interior is typical GM, plasticky, parts-bin special. Why would you spend $35 G on a MIDsize truck that will have long term reliability issues & lose a lot of its value? You could have a nice full size f150 or Silverado for that price.

As I said to someone before, I did not want a fullsize. Price not a big issue imo. Top of the line Tacomas cost near the same.

Maybe so. My experience was with the '15. At the time of purchase, the Colorado was better.

easier to park and maneuver when you use it as a work truck.

i had a 1998 chevy 1500 that i drove until 2010 with no interior issues. truck had 250,000 miles when i got rid of it. currently in a 2010 gmc that also has no interior issues. maybe you just don't take care of your vehicles?

I've never seen an Avalanche that didn't have a cracked dash.

Well, with all due respect, I'm not too concerned with what an option is for you as I'm not looking at getting a full-size truck. Your lack of detail in your suggestion of a small to mid-size truck and the fact that you referred back to a full-sized truck leads me to believe that you aren't a reliable source of suggestion for what I am looking for. Thank you for the feedback though.

I currently have a Tacoma and am interested in the Chevy/GM when I do trade in. Though Tacomas keep their value so well. I bought mine in 2011 and it's still worth around what I paid even after putting 70k miles on it.
I got a great deal on it, but I see the same year and model as mine sell for 10-12k and I bought mine for $9500.

No issues yet, I just need more room (access cab currently)

1) they didn't offer the avalanche in 1998 (started in 2002)
2) i also own an 07 avalanche without a cracked dash

i don't doubt that the dashes on some vehicles crack, but it's obvious where your bias is when people act like they all have interior problems. hopefully there are enough people in this thread now to give OP some honest and varied opinions to help him make his choice

The Colorado is at the top of my list with the Tacoma being #2. I may be in the minority but I don't like the exterior of the Tacoma for some reason.

I'm a bowtie guy myself, I'm saying they have BAD dash issues on GM trucks.

I too am interested in the Colorado.

I have a midsize truck now, I think I am qualified to speak on mid-sized trucks. I'm not trying to troll him away from a Chevy. My mom has a Chevy Cuze and loves it, my sister has an Equinox and hates it. I know they can have issues, but all cars do. My point earlier was that Toyota has less of these issues. While the dahs and interior may be all thick cheap plastic on the Taco, I've NEVER seen cracked or worn out dashes in a Tacoma.

Going back to this.

A GMC Canyon well equipped z71 runs around $35,000 while a GMC Sierra 1500 well equipped z71 runs closer to $48,000.

That's a big difference in my book. I don't have a dog in the fight but I understand some guys prefer midsize if they drive in a city, want better gas mileage, tow medium payloads, and don't need the extra size.

I'm just glad the Taco now has a serious competitor.

I've owned three gmc trucks dating back to the 90's and my wife drove GMC Acadia for six years. I didn't have a cracked dash.

The Acadia was the 2007 and last gmc we had. The only interior issues it had in over 100,000 miles was paint wearing off some of the buttons inside. I've seen that problem on every model of vehicle thou so it's not that big a deal.

I just went over 10,000 miles in my 15' Colorado crew cab 4x4. Only "issue" is wiith the programming of the shift points from the factory, which they have modified with the latest reflash.

Solid vehicle with lots of power, great mileage and a ride thats light years better than the Tacoma.

I should know since I traded my o8 Tacoma DC 4x4 Sport in for this one.

I still own a 2004 Colorado Z71 exd cab. I have enjoyed the size of the truck for what I do with it, and I doubt I'll ever sell it.

i got ya. fwiw i have never seen one in a gm vehicle (and i've been in hundreds) i see how the old ones could have cracked tho. they were really hard plastic, unlike most modern dashes that are a softer texture.

only cracked dash i've ever seen was in a 90's dodge ram
