I'm wondering how many people are doing this. I chose to get rid of Charter TV last month to save money. I find that I don't miss it all, when I can still watch whatever I want online. Streaming live sports, Netflix, AMC.com, etc.

Do you think the rate that people are discontinuing cable will continue to increase? I'm wondering how much this would impact these companies. They have to make a killing providing Internet regardless.

It will continue until they price their services appropriately.

I'm strongly considering it, the 260 a month for internet and cable is BS.

With or without commercials? Seems like even online viewing is overrun with ads

Ditched mine over 4 years ago now. They still haven't come to take that damned dish off the side of the house.

All kidding aside, don't miss it one bit. Have a TV to watch DVDs and see what I want to see on my computers or iPad or iPhone

I cut the cord 2 years ago. I just pay for internet, got Apple TV with kodi, direct tv now, and provenance for all the sega, Nintendo, and Super Nintendo games.

I voted for Trump, so wanted to get that out of the way.

Trump has appointed someone as the new FCC chairman that is anti net neutrality. What this means is they will overturn the current regulation that treats the internet as a utility and will allow the ISP's to charge extra for where you use your bandwidth. So, you will not only pay for internet but where you go on the internet. If you don't want to pay for the ISP's "media package" you will get redirected to a slow lane of bandwidth when you want to use a streaming service. The bandwifth will make it intolerable to try to use something like Netflix.

The end result will be people will stop cutting the cords and start using cable/sat again.

260 a month

You are getting raped. I know it depends on where you live, but holy frick I pay $120 for ATT U-verse gigabit Internet and their decent cable package, and also got HBO for free. I'm abnormal but you should not pay more than 160 for those services

The problem is cable companies think they can still overcharge people if their area doesn't have much competition. Services like sling tv have eliminated that location buffer and I expect to see more like it in the next 5 years. I've considered switching, but I'd maybe save $20 a month with the connection that I have and have to deal with dvr issues. Just not worth it.

Not when you lose leverage later on with alternative choices due to high cost.

sling tv

$20-$50 depending on package. PS Directv owns sling
quote:

Hulu

$10/month
quote:

Amazon

$120/year or $12/month
quote:

Netflix

$10/month

So $75ish already plus another $50-$85 for the Internet to run all of it which gets you pushing $150ish. How much are really "saving" by doing all of that?

It's pretty shitty. Though hopefully, whoever replaces him, isn't a corporate shill.

Netflix will probably pay to stay in the fast lane, though their prices will probably increase accordingly. What it really destroys is any potential start up. It will reduce competition, and limit innovation.
