Like a lot of affluent Black folks from outside of Louisiana. Essence =/= Bayou Classic.

Hotels are hiring extra cleanup staff for Monday when they all check out.

I had a friend who worked at one of the hotels downtown when he got out of college and he said they leave these rooms a complete fricking mess. they pile 20 in a room. He said there’s Popeyes fried chicken boxes all over and you can tell they wipe their greasy hands all over the walls. And then they have the fricking nerve to get pissed because they weren’t given special half-off rates.

Looked pretty empty today, actually.

I read an article about this the other day. Apparently ticket sales are way down. It made me wonder whether many people/vendors are pulling out because they’re not being financed anymore by the scam that was USAid. Not at all sure – just a thought.

The real question is has anyone been invited to a bathroom BBQ this weekend?

This. We never have any issues this weekend in our businesses. Good people in town and usually spend a lot of money. Not a good thing that ticket sales are way down. Jazzfest has been trending down as well and it is hurting tax dollars.

Downtown is as empty tonight. Maybe it will change over the weekend, but it was dead when I left tonight

Dude, the Earthcam Cats Meow corner is freakin dead.
Bizarre for a regular Thursday much less a holiday-eve one.

Interesting take. Some were also saying at one time it was a women’s empowerment festival, but it has changed and not the same.

Some of the comments under the Nola.com said they were boycotting the fest bc Target is a sponsor and several chimed in agreeing. I don’t know what Target did this time to upset anyone. I thought Target leans left. I didn’t open the article, but apparently several sponsors pulled sponsorships.

I have a theory about the unexpected lower attendance number.

Cuts or threat of cuts to many Fed NGO’s, that trickle down to all the “cultural” shite, like attending Essence Fest for “cultural empowerment seminars”.

Interesting thought. Maybe some of the other BS will crumble.

Yeah, not a big crowd downtown. Something is definitely up. I bet the theories about usaid cuts are right. No way this is because of some target boycott.
