Last year after skiing at Crested Butte for the day drove back to DIA around 3pm to catch a 10pm flight. Well unluckily for us the wind was really bad that day despite it being sunny so all the snow was drifting across the roads in the valley. As soon as we got out of the valley we saw where we just drove through was closed.
we somehow ended up having to make that same drive. rental place didn't have a big enough vehicle for our family so my dad and I both drove sedans. white-out blizzard conditions on the way there over monarch pass was the scariest driving i have ever done. one guy in a jeep cherokee thought he was a badass and passed us before promptly spinning out into a ditch.

Denver Airport is huge and rental car facilities are out in boonies so factor that in to return trip. We drove at night and barely made it through to get to Aspen. Conditions change on a whim so if you are prepared to drive in snow etc take a shuttle

Yeah, that definitely sucks and needs to be taken into account. That one of the great things about Park City... Rental cars are right across the street from baggage, and it's a 30 min. drive with a very low chance of the road being shut down. Oh and SLC has ZERO traffic... never seen anything like it.

Few things in life suck more than 70 east on Sundays, especially in the winter.

that's a horrific drive during winter

Just use the shuttles they are at least consistent and know the area if nothing else.

Monarch is hell, we travel it every year for Christmas doing Winter park this year, I hear Berthoud Pass is just as bad
