Are you an Earthbag house kind of guy? Off-grid?

It is awfully desolate out there. Once you roll through Carlsbad Caverns, the immediate area is pretty terrible. Unless you are moving from Ferriday, Roswell will suck.

You should be. No pun intended but acreage in some places near there is, ugh, dirt cheap. Like, Earthbag houses or straw bale aren't that uncommon. You could spend 30K all in and ball with enough friends and help.

Lives there the first half of 1981. Worst place I have ever lived. I imagine it has changed a good bit but there was nothing to do, no good restaurants and the weather was awful (cold and windy). Was thrilled when I transferred to Albuquerque, which I liked a lot.

Hope they are paying you well. Spent a night in Carlsbad and drove up through Roswell. Feels like a different world over there.

Hey, I bet Ferriday has better drug options.

I've driven through a few times, seems like a decent place. My impression is it's somewhere I'd like to live. Some beautiful scenery nearby. If you take hwy 380 west, it goes through some pretty mountainy areas.

I spent 4 years at the military school there back in the early 2000s. There’s nothing there. Albuquerque and Lubbock are both 3 hours away. Ruidoso is a nice mountain town, I guess. Good luck.

If you go, check out Cloudcroft. The drive is beautiful.

Used to live in that part of the world and considered moving there for a job myself. Roswell is a dump. If you’re single and can make some serious coin, then maybe. If you’re married, I wouldn’t mess with it.
