That feeling is the precursor to lucid dreaming, if you can stay "awake" while your body falls asleep you will be able to float out of your body and fly around as a astral projection. That transition stage is made to wake you up though, you will start hearing and feeling strange vibrations that don't feel natural and most people wake themselves up because it's so weird.
I took a few actual classes in astral projection. Lucid dreaming has always been a skill of mine. That is just basically when you have a mechanism to "wake up" in dreams themselves. Once you are aware you can pretty much do anything you want.

Sleep paralysis is no joke. Had it since I was 6 years old. Used to be the scariest shite ever...kinda still is..you almost get used to it but not quite. It's spiritual warfare. 3M ppl suffer from it a year. Watch THE NIGHTMARE (documentary) on Netflix just came out. Explains the phenomenon pretty accurately .
Yeah it's been happening to me as long as I can remember. What usually happens is me looking at my door (my light and door are always closed and off but during this the light is always on and door open) and there's somebody/something standing in the doorway. Then it runs at me as if to kill me or harm me. But I always wake up when it gets to me. Cold sweats.

I have semi-lucid dreams I guess..
I can do anything I want, but the dream police are always asking if I have a permit to do it,so I just watch dream porn instead.

If by lucid dreaming you mean closing my eyes and pretending there are big tittays being stuffed on my face while I pull on my pecker then yes. If not, well no.

I've had lucid nightmares every now and then as of late. Not fun.

Some say lucid dreaming anf sleep paralysis are connected.

I can't tell if I am involuntarily lucid dreaming or not. It sounds like I am from everything I've read about it. I'll be barely asleep and then something weird happens where I'm in a dream-like state but I can't move or anything. I'm more or less paralyzed; but I know I'm not completely asleep or awake.
Lucid dreaming is dreaming when you know you're asleep and dreaming. It allows you to control your dreams. It's natural to some people, but you can be trained to do it.

That's called sleep paralysis.
Yep. See this has all been covered.

I literally wake up right before getting the sex in all the sexy dreams I ever had. So actually I have always fricked up my wet dreams

I got into lucid dreaming when I used to have nightmares. My husband told me to call for him in these dreams and he would come save me. After a few times, I was able to pull him into my dreams and he took care of whatever was after me. It worked.
Then months later, I dreamed that our ceiling got messed up and the attic beams were exposed. I like the look of the exposed beam because it made our ceiling like a cathedral ceiling. In the dream my husband hated it and wanted the ceiling like it was and we argued. I woke up and thought nothing of it.
Later at his mom, we were talking about all kinds of stuff and my husband and my husband and I disagreed on something inconsequential. I told him, "even in my dreams you disagree with me. You argued with me about the ceiling last night".
He looked at me and said" I know, I don't want exposed beams in the ceiling. I want it like it was before".
And from there we continued the disagreement from the dream (not fighting just talking). We had the exact same dream over something that had nothing to do with anything we were dealing with in real life. How weird!!!!

That's sleep paralysis, not lucid dreaming. I get sleep paralysis, which you can apparently use to enter a lucid dream. I have been trying for years, but it has only sort of worked for me once.

Lucid dream or sleep paralysis?

I am capable of lucid dreaming. Usually have one about once a week. It really is a great experience. I have gotten skilled with it to where I am now able to take off at least at the location where I was last (can't remember the full details though of the previous dream). Recently I've been able to contain my dream to a wartorn zombie valley and it's awesome. Lucid dreaming is just incredible.

Lucid dream. The key to those is it has to be vivid enough to really get your brain active, but with enough conflicts that you start to piece together, "Hey - this is a dream." More fairly, I have had highly lucid dreams at times in the past. I should say that I have really vivid dreams on melatonin, and these border on lucid - the issue I have is that, lately, the dreams don't drift into lucidity until late in the morning, that final REM cycle, so I do not have as much of an opportunity to steer them. And this is because I don't get enough sleep, IMHO.
I have had sleep paralysis in the past, too, although that is rare and more terrifying than a nightmare.

Why do so many people on this board mis-use the term "Lucid Dream"? It is not sleep paralysis.
Lucid dreaming is where you are dreaming and you realize you're dreaming. where it goes from there is between you and your subconscious.
I used to have them all the time for some reason. The first time I did it I was in a car and realized I was dreaming so I just started going as fast as I could. I woke up when I wrecked. I kept having more, usually tame ones, until once I got all deranged and it got rapey. Woke up a bit disturbed but chalked it up to some primal instincts. That was years ago and I haven't had another once since then.

When I sustained some injuries after a horrific car accident with this crazy girl I was seeing, I started having these lucid dreams and I couldn't determine what was reality and what wasn't anymore. It really left me scarred and I found myself pushed to the edge of awareness.
