I got to walk the floor of it in 2018. It was super laid back, most of the "traders" were watching sports.


Would have loved the chance to do that before algos took over

Well how did that work? There were over 1,500 companies listed on the NYSE in 1980

It's a semi choreographed dance among the participants. Hand signals meant something.Every word meant something. As an observer you would think it was pure chaos, but it wasn't. I sort of miss seeing the action, all the yelling and at times, the herd mentality as large groups would move between pits. I went about 3 years ago, it was quiet and maybe 1/20 th of the people who used to be on the floor.

Now if you ever wanted to see bonkers stuff, go to NYMEX about 20 years ago or the CBT. Fights, pay back.....like WWE......but it actually meant something.

The 'location' is just where a guy was assigned to stand. It's a big floor.
