I had just PCS'd to Camp Lejeune when it started, but my wife was still living in the Bethesda/Rockville area. I was in D.C. on the weekends during this time. Wild time to be there.

We didn’t have outdoor recess for a month. A lot of parents didn’t let their kids play outside after school and weekends. Mine and my friends did. Every time we saw a white van we’d run and take cover, half jokingly. My friends uncle is a contractor and drove a white van with ladders. He got pulled over non stop until they caught they guys.

DC Sniper Suspects Charged with Baton Rouge Murder
D.C. sniper attacks Does not list the Baton Rouge murder, but does have an entry for the Hammond, Louisiana shooting under the heading of Preliminary shootings.

At one point 9 out of 11 victims had died or something, so people were trying to link it to terrorism. Just a wild few weeks.
Kind of surprised we have never seen a copy cat considering the nut jobs out there that have no problem shooting places up. I guess there are so many more cameras around that it could be easier to catch someone.

I had to travel through the area a couple of times. I also had to stop for gas, too. There was a little bit of anxiety filling up.

Ive always thought it would be too easy to destabilize a city with a couple trained snipers

I did. One of their victims was a woman shot in a Home Depot parking lot about 3 blocks away from my apartment complex on Rt. 7.
I used to get gas at the Chevron at Seven Corners, which is right out in the open on an elevated position, but after the shooting, I started getting it at gas station that have no sight lines.
Of course, they were targeting white people, but that was given almost no attention by the media.

They told us to look out for a white SUV or van. Welp, that's half the vehicles on the roads.
