In a small cell with 7 other inmates for a week. Got out to go to church. Ate in the cell, which contained a toilet facing the four bunk beds. No bathing. Passed the time reading Harlequin romance novels

I've done more than one night in jail but never prison. Spent 6 days in jail when I was 19 for driving drunk and swung at a police officer. I FAFO, got the shite beat out of me by the cops. Deserved it, 30 years later haven't drove after more than 1 drink since. No experiences, night I was in jail and drunk I remember making people laugh (probably laughing at not with me). I was in a big room for 24 hours and nobody messed with me, people kept to themselves. Went to a cell and my roommate was cool, he was in for drugs.

ETA: My dad wouldn't bail me out

no, I wanted to get tf out of there

I was sitting next to some crackhead woman that wanted me to promise I’d get her some crack and bring it back, and also a man who had his hand in his pants that was in there for stalking.

I had an older relative who dealt with his Vietnam PTSD by making homemade explosives and blowing things up. It landed him behind bars for 18 months which turned out to be a good thing. He got counseling and they hooked him up with a lot of VA benefits when he got out. It improved his life tremendously.

No but I have a friend in there right now. He says the trick is: kick someone's arse the first day, or become someone's bitch. Then everything will be all right.

Not talking about an overnighter, I mean booked and served real time?

Experiences?

go rent the movie "get hard" with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart

after watching that movie, you will know everything you need to know about jail.

Depends on where you’re locked up at, your ethnicity, your gang affiliation, etc.

I did my time in Parchman, facilities were disgusting. I went in initially thinking I’ll be with the other Vicelords like it was in county, but got there and saw that people cliqued up more so along the lines of where they were from than gang affiliation, aka the folks from Jackson stuck together, Hattiesburg stuck together, country boys were really the only ones in their set tripping about their flags.

Respect the rules of your pod, don’t let anyone disrespect you, and don’t disrespect anyone else and you’ll be fine. Don’t sit on anyone else’s bed because that’s the only thing they own in their life at the moment. Have your bed rolled up by whatever time your program calls for it. Get your workouts in, fart in the toilet and flush after every drop, and keep your cell clean.

Probably the weirdest thing I saw while incarcerated was to get on one knee to pee in the toilet to prevent splashes and pissing on the floor. This was popular for people in the Nation of Islam and their cell mates. There’s only so much room in a cell for him to pray, so it was their way of being respectful of the area they had in which to get on hands and knees and pray.

My father was sentenced to life for killing a 19 year old girl over $80 when I was 15 years old. He died alone in whatever shite hole he was in back in November. I hated the man as long as I can remember. I just feel a very cruel sadness about all of it now.

It's dependent on the particular facility you are in and how it's wardened. Some are just as you described. Some are worse than the streets of Chicago.

There's a dedicated site to GA state prisons. If you want to see the prison movies depict give it a gander. The COs don't enter the dayrooms in many of them unless to pick up the dead or injured. It's equivalent to a 3rd world gladiator arena.

I’ve been in Angola, Rayburn, Hunt, and numerous parish prisons.

For work purposes.
