Things went fine with my family. My husband and I met my parents and siblings for lunch. Then hung out with them for a little bit before driving over to my inlaws.


And that is when shite hit the fan.

My mother in law starts asking my husband why his sister didn't call them about plans for the day and just texted him instead. My poor husband simply tries saying his sister isn't there to answer that and then he was accused of taking her side. His parents both go off on this tirade about how no one tries to contact them about holidays,etc. His mom crying hysterically and his dad yelling. They just ambushed us.

His sister ended up not showing up cause she found out on the phone they were arguing and she didn't want to expose her 6 year old son to that(and I totally agree with her doing that...no child should see family argue with each other like that). I tried to make a couple comments to come to my husband's defense and was interrupted by my mother in law sharply telling me "I'm his MOTHER, I think I know my son". Which was my cue to shut the frick up at that point

My husband tried leaving (which I told him not a good idea). His parents finally calmed down and things were ok by the time we left.

But yikes....what a fricking nightmare. I had to keep biting my tongue to not say "seriously...you think this is something worth getting THIS fricking upset over??? My parents have been dealing with shite a million times worse and you don't see them freaking out over how holidays are spent. They are grateful for any time they get to spend with family."

No booze. His mom has just been acting weird the past few months. She loves playing the martyr card. We asked them over and over what they wanted to do for Thanksgiving last year...they didn't want to split it with everyone so they decided not to do anything at all.

Well boo fricking hoo...that is what many families do. I tried to remind them that as well. Told them I can remember doing up to 3 thanksgivings in one day as a child. Not that big a deal imo.


She gets all upset because my sister in law's inlaws are a massive huge family while my husband just has his sister (and her son and husband) and his parents for holiday. My mother in law feels like she always has to work around her daughter's inlaw's schedule for holidays. The real issues seems to be with his parents and his sister....but my husband and I were the only ones there so we got the explosion from them.

She sounds like a crazy bitch. You don't have to take that. Treat her like you would jmcray or mermaid.
