It's a beautiful little school in Alpine Texas. Close to Big Ben National Park. Lot's of hiking and camping. Guadalupe mountains surrounding the area.

The Guadalupe Mountains are not near Alpine. That’s Dell City towards El Paso.

Not named after a Texas Ranger. Originally named Murphyville changed to Alpine. The Texas Ranger you are thinking of is Joaquin Jackson who lived here.

I for one thing Alpine has a charm to it.

Had a tenant in NOLA who was a new archeology asst prof at Tulane, post Katrina took a job at Sul Ros. The job was full prof, paid better and even when she went on digs.
Tulane is the university for archeology in the US thanks to the contributions of Matilda Gray in artifacts, manuscripts and large endowment.

Not Alpine, Sul Ross University. Named after Lawrence Sullivan Ross.
Served in the Texas Rangers for the CSA and was governor of Texas, among other things.
