If you have you will never forget when and how?
Mine came walking from class in college dam thing fell out of the tree onto my neck. I brushed it off thinking it was a harmless bug. Well all that did was push the poisonous stingers further into my neck. The next 2 days were hell.

They call it a puss Caterpillar but it sure packs a wallop. If your kid sees these tell them to stay far away. Anyway the story in the link reminded me. Anyone else ever had the pleasure of meeting one of these ?

Yes, but thought they were called saddleback's here.
Jumped up to swat a oak branch, not good.

I put on some old tennis shoes and crushed some kind of cocoon. My toes and top of foot had its juice all over soaked in my sock. Foot itched for 9 days. It was agonizing. Nothing helped

i just got the image of me trying to pee on my neck when it happened. Not a good image or did you mean pee on the caterpillar? Not sure that was going to help my pain.

Saddlebacks are a different type of stinging caterpillar.

The little a-hole black/grey ones you see all over BR are buck moths.

Honestly, they all suck. I’ve accidentally pissed of my share of wasp nests over the years, and as much as I hate wasps - I’ll take that over a broadside from a stinging caterpillar any day.

What ever happened to caterpillars?

As a kid I used to smash 100s and 100s of them covering the live and water oaks and all over the patio and sidewalks. Now, I never see them. Never.

But seriously. It used to be an infestation. I haven’t seen one in many years.
