Where are you located? If Lafayette recommend LOS and Dr Duval. He’s the shoulder guru there.

I was 72 when I had the surgery & after completing my PT, I am back to normal, absent age-related limitations on working out .Full range of motion. As for that law, I am going by what both my ortho & PT told me. I have since heard the same from several other medical sources.

My mother’s keys were “lost” when she was about your age. Eventually she stopped asking about them.

(FYI, I’m not far behind ya.)

If you do not have the surgery and continue to lift any significant weight with that arm you risk a dislocation and then you are screwed. You will be susceptible to dislocations for the rest of your life is what I have been told.

I had a 90% + tear in mine in 2018 and did the surgery about 4 months later. My mobility in that shoulder is about 95% recovered and PT sucked, but I am still glad that I did it.

Timely thread is timely. I have not had an injury, but have pain in my left shoulder for months. So I finally broke down and went to the ortho. Said my cuff was irritated. No mri yet though. I've been assigned PT and going to try that for a while.
Is it just age or what cause I did not do anything to injure it. I mean I could be sleeping on it wrong for all I know.

so for most of yall that do not have a tear....you have a scap mobilization issue, mainly becuase you are internally rotated and have a tight chest

start doing lots of the following(losing weight is another big one)

#1 hanging from a bar, work up to 7 min cumulative daily. (look up dr kirsch protocol)

#2 broom stick dislocates-25-50/day

#3 banded facepulls- 50-100/day

#4 banded overhead Y to T- 25-50/day

#5 stretches for the rib cases where you hold a door knob and bend over where arm is in line with the back and stretch

so you can do the above or combine the hangs with the crossover symmetry shoulder rehab program

do 1 of the 2 and for 90% of yall....you will be out of pain. the rest of yall....get the durgery and make sure you take rehab serious and listen to the doctor on limitations so you dont retear it.

I've torn both of my rotator cuffs; had 1 surgically repaired but not the other. Surgery is easy but rehab sucks PLUS sleeping in a sling for 5 weeks where you can never get comfortable.

For the one I didn't have surgery one, the tear wasn't huge so I opted not to have it fixed and my ortho doc prescribed 15 MG Meloxicam tabs and it worked wonders.

Partial tear on right shoulder. Saw an orthopod and PT, its not quite worth surgery. PT is very helpful plus remembering not to throw overhand. Have some limitations, like throwing but now over 60 so its not a real issue. Consult w health care pros and figure out best path for you.
