My older brother was in the Navy for 4 years aboard the U.S.S Eisenhower and then was in the Army as a Ranger for 6 years.

Is there anyway to receive his military record showing where all he has been and done?

He passed away 5 years ago and didn't speak a lot of his military career other than to say that he had to do somethings that he wasn't proud of that caused PTSD.

Service record...yes. Not too difficult to obtain info about when he served, his rank, awards, etc.

Individual assignments, on the other hand, are rarely shared in public. You might have some luck talking to friends that he served with though.

Sorry about your brother. I hope you know that there are a lot of us that sincerely appreciate the sacrifice he made and what your family went through. These days that gets lost in all the nonsensical rhetoric spewed out on the typical propaganda channels. A lot of us try understand at least some of it and appreciate our service members deeply.

I didn't think I'd have much of a chance of seeing that. He spent time overseas with the Rangers and eluded to the fact that they did some sketchy shite.

Thank you very mush for saying that.

He was extremely proud that he was with the 4th Battalion 502nd Infantry Division in Berlin during the time the wall came down. I took a piece of it to school to show my history teacher and received an A in his class. lol

Go here

I'm not going to speak ill of your brother in any way but expect that there could be some surprises when you see his actual military records vs what he told people. I have no idea why people decide to embellish their career but I'm never shocked when I see it. Not saying this is the case but be prepared for it.

Start by requesting his DD214. As a family member, you shouldn't have a problem getting it, but you may need to gather info as you'll need his info (including SSN), about when he joined, and about when he got out of each service branch. Once you get that, you may have some clues you can follow up on. No idea if it's one DD214, or one for each branch? But when you start filling out the request, the instructions will tell you what you need to do.

When the wall was brought down or when the gates were opened?

Nov89 when the Borhholm Bridge gate was accidentally opened I was TDY in Berlin. If that is what you are talking about it was a crazy night. I may have met your brother. If you are talking about the actual destruction of the wall I wasn't there for that.

I asked for my own DD-214 over 16 months ago and still haven't gotten it. They limited records to emergencies during COVID. No clue if they're working on the backlog yet.

Highly possible also. I know the VA went virtual for the most part and most doctor stuff was done via phone call or online. So I do suspect there is a backlog of requests waiting to be fulfilled. It could takes months to years to sort this one out.

I tried to get mine a while back, took like a year or so and that was before covid.

I couldnt find mine so I tried to get one, in that year I actually found it and forgot about trying to get one.

They still are not looking up non-emergency records. I've been trying to research the WW1 service records of one of my late, much older cousins and I'm still getting the Covid-19 response.
