Any Tobacco Pipe Smokers Out There?

I ordered a couple of corncob pipes and a couple of blends (Old Toby and a Creme Brule aromatic from cobblestone).
Anyone have any tips or want to share your favorite pipes or blends?
I am obviously just getting into the hobby so its a lot to try to figure out and any information would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer the flavor of pipe tobacco over a cigar. The good thing about a cigar though is that it stays lit. I find I constantly had to relight my pipe mid bowl

Thats where I am at. I don't love cigars so I am giving tobacco pipes a chance. I am gonna start with aromatic blends and see where it goes.

Watch YouTube videos on how to pack pipes, even if you think you already know how. I found myself having to light the bowl much less often after watching these videos.
The same goes for cleaning the pipe or even the act of smoking itself.
A lot of tobacco sites will sell sampler packs with small amounts of different blends. I'd recommend this until you find what you really like.

For the record: I like the scent of both cigar and pipe smoke. Fond memories of LSU games way back when (cigars). Cigarettes are hideous and classless.

Similar in the fact that its a pipe but different in the fact that I will smoke tobacco blends out of it.
Tabacco pipes tend to made from corncobs or briar or some other wood instead of glass or plastic like weed pipes.

I was once a pretty high-ranking officer in the Philippines. I won't say what office, but it was high. Tensions were rising with a certain distant neighbor because they wanted the port and access to oil in KLP. Well, we didn't want to give it to them. One thing leads to another and the neighbor gets some kind of hair across their arse about the whole deal and they're coming to kill me and everyone around me. I don't have to tell you this, but they meant it. I pulled some strings and caught a boat out of there. Now, the bad part is that the boat wasn't that big, so we had to leave a few folks behind. I understand it got unpleasant for a few of them, but they were big boys and knew what they had signed up for. And as I mentioned, I couldn't fit them in the boat. Took my pipes, though, thank the sweet lord. Love those pipes.

I did for a long time.
Take a look at this website. Best pipe shop I ever did business with.
Country Squire. I was one of their first customers +50 years ago.
Some general statements
Specific tobacco varieties:
Virginia tobacco burns easily (hot and easy to keep lit)
Maryland burns smoothly
Cavendish is a sweet blend
Perique is a strong smoky spicy blend produced in St. James Parish of Louisiana. You can't really smoke it pure. So strong it will make you drunk as a cooter. Always used in some smallish concentration of a blend. When yo find a good blend with it (Country Squire will have some) you will grow to like it.
Need a good pipe broken in, with a cake of tobacco char lining the bowl. This will take time, or a lot of smoking to accomplish.
You need two or three pipes, to rotate. Maybe one for day, and a different one for night. Honestly, they need to dry out occasionally.
IMO corncob pipes are trash. They don't smoke very well and don't last very long before they burn out.
Expect to pay a bit for a good pipe ($100 - whatever you can spend). I had a Charatan Supreme pipe I paid $200 for in 1971 that would sell for well over $500 on the collectable market today. I gave it to one of my sons maybe 25 years ago and he still smokes it.
Dunhill makes very good pipes. I had several and enjoyed smoking them.
Want class? Buy a meerschaum pipe and when it gets broken in, you will want to smoke nothing else. Buy a shape you like and expect to spend some money on it, but it should last the rest of your life and then quite a bit into whoever gets it from you.
Enough from me. Call Country Squire. They would be happy to talk to you and will likely be able to recommend someone in your area who would like to do business with you.

I smoke Aromatic blends but for the record, are not high quality smokes/tobacco.
I would recommend a Virginia Flake tobacco for a higher quality tobacco which can be found through google...
Also, see links below for additional info..

Also.. here is an interesting link for Estate (2nd hand..) pipes and also tobacco..

I don't intend to stay with corncob pipes, what I learned on Youtube is to start with a cheap pipe. This guy said that for starters, you don't know if you'll even like pipe smoking so don't throw a bunch of money at t until you are sure you like it. and second, you will make mistakes at first so don't ruin an expensive pipe.
Also my FIL makes Danish Freehand pipes for fun so he is making me one.

A good freehand in a shape you like will be a pleasure to smoke.
Get him to also make you a fairly conservative shaped one.

I smoke a tobacco pipe and have for quite a long time. My dad and my grandpa both were pipe tobacco smokers so I was very accustomed to it.
First thing, smoke slowly. Sip the damn thing. Don't make it look like a train chooching. If you have to re-light, no big deal. For most tobaccos, a dry time is suggested. Scatter it on a paper plate or whatever to let it dry for an hour or so. Wet tobacco burns hot.
A corncob is a classic, good smoker. They don't last very long but they do the job and are good entry levels. If you get a briar, get a quality pipe (don't get any wood pipe except for briar). My favorite are my Savinellis, but they're a bit more expensive so you might want to hold off on a Savinelli until you get more into it. Stanwell makes a good medium range price briar pipe.
EVERYONE wants to start with aromatics. But once they discover other blends, they ditch the aromatics. Aromatics burn hot and are nothing but flavor sprayed Cavendish tobacco.
Get a good entry level English/Balkan blend. They're cool smokers, forgiving and have great complexity. Once you get used to sipping a pipe, try a good Virginia Perique, especially during the summer. Don't try the Dark Fired burleys until you get more pipe time, but they're great as well.
I have several thousands of dollars of top end tobacco jarred up to age. Some that are rare and hard to get like Esoterica and some that are discontinued like Frog Morton. If you wanted samples and had a PO box or whatever I'd send you some.

Estate Pipes
Thank You for this link in particular. Some of the Youtubers mentioned looking in to estate pipes but I had no idea how. If I do stick with pipe smoking, I will definitely purchase a nice estate pipe.

I have a meerschaum and they have their pros and cons. They're pretty fragile. But they do smoke cool for sure.
Also, they "absorb" the tobacco and color the pipe, which looks great. But it tends to hold the flavor of the tobacco in it, so I only smoke Virgina Periques out of it. If I put some Old Dark Fired in it, the flavors would kind of mingle.
Country Squire is a good tobacco shop and make good in house blends. If you want to look at big online selections, the top 2 online are pipesandcigars.com and smokingpipes.com.
