Any Student Pilots? Soon To Be Student Pilots?

I wasn't planning on doing this till next year but since things are so slow due to the economy I went ahead and started ground school (online classes). I live in a fly in community so I expect I am going to have more access to flight instructors this summer/fall than I will next summer if things are slow (and maybe a better rate). Anyone other members currently working on getting their license?

I did. Started when I was 12. I would plan on spending around $8k. Now would be a great time to fly with fuel prices so low.

What's your ultimate goal? Private, instrument, commercial?
If the weather is good and you stay at it you can probably get your PPL in two months maybe less depending on how many days a week you go at it.
AvGas fuel prices are a little lower so that's good. Have you already applied for your student certificate? Taken your medical yet?

Curious, how did you come to live in a fly-in community if you don’t already fly? I assume it was your intention to get a PPL. Do you plan to get your own plane? Good luck and have fun.

Took mine when I first moved here. Knew a guy with a plane and he was an instructor so I got off cheap on my hours. Took ground school classes at night.

Just got my private ticket on New Year’s Day. AMA.
Are you out of 66Y?

Just Private
I am doing Kings School for the Ground School
The community I live in is only accessible by plane. We have about 150 people I suppose and two airstrips. We have a few air taxis that serve our area and I am fortunate enough to be able hitch rides into town with work occasionally as well. I won't be able to do my med cert until things open back up. Hopefully mid June I will be able to get into town to take it and to take my exam.
Usually the pilots here are so busy in the summer they don't start lessons until the fall. I expect this summer I will be able to get an early start because I don't expect some of the lodges are going to fully open.
Here's a video I found from a pilot with a little information about the area.

Kings is good shitski. I used them for my ground school when getting my PPL. I remember walking in to take the knowledge test and having 4 hours or whatever it was to complete it. After a little over an hour I walked out and they thought there was a problem, but I was already complete. 100% on the knowledge test, they were shocked. I took it at KHND what seems a lifetime ago.
ETA: I actually just ran across my old Kings materials and donated them to the library about a month ago.

Yeah their online videos have been pretty good. I was really wanting to do the ground school in person but I would have had to wait. A local pilot recommended I check it out and I have no regrets.

Gulf Coast Aviation at KNEW has free online ground school now (or that's what my email said)

I am currently in the process. Doing ground school through Sporty's and instruction with an acquaintance at the airport.
I have a unique situation, but now is the time to find a good instructor at a flight school. The flight school at our airport catered to Chinese students which has completely dried up. The flight school filed chapter 11, but there are a number of American CFI and CFIIs there looking for hours to get to 1,500. You could probably negotiate a decent deal on a block of instruction.

Be very, very careful on how much you prepay. Flight schools are notorious for collecting big deposits or prepayments and then filing BK.

Sportys has a good practice test app for private.

Good luck baw.

That 0.2 was awesome for me...
Also OP don’t make the same mistake as me. Clean up your logbook from you flight in before going into the DPE’s office for the oral...

That’s what I always tell everyone who wants to buy a plane. The plane is cheap...the maintenance is expensive. This new ADS-B garbage also costed me...
