High end is around 750-1.0. That being said it would be fun but eventually you will get to play old to do the daily routine. If you end up deciding to do it I would have a small house paid off some where that could be home base. Because when you get to that too old point and all your money is tied up in an RV and truck that’s used it won’t go very far. Just my .02. Have fun!

RVs are always hot or cold inside and the shower hot water doesnt last long. Killer for most women.

It takes an artistic talent to select a perfectly shaded and scenic spot.

You'll find the best deals in the service center waiting room at any major dealer.

I suggest choosing your camp sites first. You don't want to be in a parking lot.

The busses are nice but you'll need to pull a jeep truck or something useless.

Toy haulers are heavy and need a dual rear wheel tow vehicle for cross country.

I would go with an Alliance Paradigm 5th wheel or similar. Rig a dual sport moto on a rear carrier.

Things have went up a lot. The times of nice $200K motor homes are yester-year prices. You can still get something nice but not upper end.

I really thought long and hard about building a small house for the wife and myself up close to the lake and then buying an RV 5th wheel to haul around and live out of about 6 months of the year. It was very tempting, but we found a pretty good deal on a place we really liked that was already on the lake.

Where we live now, I don’t really feel the desire to travel around in an RV. Although it would be nice to spend a few months of the summer up in Montana.

My wife and I considered this very thing about three years ago. We were dead on serious about it and started off looking at all the pretty RV's there were (both new and used). There are PLENTY of used/pre-owned RVs that can be had for a very fair price.

After google searches and and seeing what all amenities we'd like, we actually went out into the world to look at several of them to get a feel for the space they afforded. Some of them were close to what we were looking for, but there was always that "something" that we couldn't quite get nailed down. I mean, if we're gonna do this, we have to find the one we really want and make no compromises.

We thought we had found the perfect RV and we were about to make the offer.

THEN - Construction mode me started looking closely at the way they were put together. The walls were thin veneer with a pretty finish on them, but of no real substance. The trim on corners of the walls was easily damaged. The bed is essentially a plank of plywood with hinges and pneumatic arms to hold it up when you want to store stuff underneath. The showers are so damned small that you need a stick with a rag on the end to wash your feet, 'cause there ain't no way even a skinny fellow like me could bend over enough to wash your feet.

Then there's the issue of water. You need water to run the shower, toilets, and kitchen. That water is collected in two tanks. One is essentially sewage and the other is what is called "gray" water. You've got to empty those tanks regularly. You also can't travel with water sloshing around in yoru supply tank without sacrificing vehicle performance due to the extra weight.

You'll need fuel (propane) to cook, and those propane tanks are about the size of what you'd use for your grill in the back yard, so they're gonna need refilled frequently.

Most places offer hook-ups for power ranging from 10A to 50A. You'll need to call ahead and plan to ensure that the available power will be sufficient.

Internet at 99.9% of the places you would go and hook up is almost as good as dial-up due to the amount of folks using it, and if you're not right next to the router, you're gonna get a VERY weakened signal.

I'm not gonna say that you shouldn't do it, but I will say that just as we were about to pull the trigger, we spent about a day really looking into the logistics of the idea and it quickly became a huge NO-GO for us.

Those are just some things to consider.

A lot of retirees in the go go years do this but have a plan in place to buy or rent because in the no go years you probably won't be able to drive any more.

This is her way of telling you to get rid of all that trash you are hoarding in the garage.

Maybe, except you will have the maintenance needs of a home AND car…

I met someone that lives in an RV full time. He works remote and travels the US throughout the year. The RV is nice, but he has friends that he stays with for a week out of the month.

The RV is a fully loaded Sprinter for about $200k.

Rent out your house to cover your note on the RV.

They had a really nice RV pulling a car. They would stay at different campgrounds and work for said campgrounds for a month and head to the next. They loved it.

We sat next to a couple on a cruise a few years ago that sold everything and bought a diesel truck and nice fifth wheel and do nothing but travel.
Said they typically stay for a month most places. Have a service collect and send their mail when they want it, and pay any bills online. Drop the fifth wheel and go to dinner. Sounds nice to me.

Friend and his wife did it.
They had 4 kids spread out in different parts of the country.
Each of their kids have young children, so they want to spend time with them.

They drive to an area by one kid and spend a few months mostly visiting with grandkids.

Then when the welcome is over with they move on to the next kid.

It’s laughable to ask this when you have never gone on any rv trips OP. I’m not talking shite, I’m saying go rent some RV’s and try it out.

I rented an rv for 17 days to drive from Florida to the grand canyon and back. It was a blast. But I wouldn’t want it to be my only home.
