Citrus Creek and Palmetto creek in river ridge by elmwood shopping center, nicer area when compared to apts in metairie, everything you need nearby...quick jump onto Jefferson, Airline, and Earhart

palmetto and bella ridge are a little out of our price range probably
Then try citrus creek? A lot of the folks here are being way dramatic. Check around Lake ave/carrollton/papworth, near vets. Then there is Severn Pointe at Severn and West Napoleon. I had friends live in both those and go to med school. They liked it fine. They aren't the nicest ever but are fine. Metro View on Houma is nice. Millstream is decent but I wouldn't look at any of the ones closer to W Esplanade. Almost all of the First Lake properties are good ( I would avoid the ones that are right on I-10).

I lived in Citrus Creeks a couple years ago. I stayed there for 1 year. It was ok in the beginning but towards the end of my lease they started having more smash n grabs and cars on cinder blocks. I was fortunate that my Z was too low to fit a jack under and the rims were to wide to fit most cars lol. The location was great since I worked in Metairie and like visiting uptown.

It wasn't bad a few years ago. Gated and the other tenants were ok. They had just re done everything after the hurricane flooded it so most appliances and all were new. It was also way cheaper compared to everything else I looked at. Super convenient to get to anything around there also.

No personal experience, but the Creeks on Dickory is where the old Brass hockey team players used to live. It's like fifteen seconds onto Earhart, which would give you like a fifteen minute drive to where you need to be in the city for Med. School.

Try Live Oak Apartments in Bucktown. I lived there for a while. Nice place, and it is gated. I liked the location most of all, it close to everything.

I have a buddy that is looking to rent in Kenner and I just started looking for him. I'm a real estate agent. Do you want me to help you find a rent house instead of an apartment complex? Sometimes you get some crazy characters in big complexes.

There's a new complex on Lake Ave. in Bucktown that looks pretty nice, not sure of the name. Down the street from Deanie's and Pucchino's...

Lake Ave right next to Esplanade has some solid places (Surf Rider 2 and the one across the street that might be condos). I lived in the older Surf Rider place right there and it wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't recommend it. Both Surf Rider places are 1st Lake so he'd get his discount.

It goes downhill quickly as you move towards Vets or the lake, though.

We lived in the Breakers on Lake Avenue when I was in med school and it was a nice complex. It's first lake as well. This was 8 years or so ago so it may have gone to shite by now.

There is a small complex on the corner of 5th St and Ridgelake, one block over from Causeway and one block from the lake levee.

I'd say they have about 30 or 40 units total. The owner lives on site and takes real good care of the place. He won't allow any BS, like shade tree mechanics, peop le trashing the grounds, etc. He has video surveillance and if he sees somebody throwing trash on the grounds, he will come knock on your door and make you pick it up.

But, the p lace is nice and he takes great care of it.

A girl I used to date lived there.

My son lived there recently for a few years while going to Tulane. Moved out at the end of year.
Nice gated place at the foot of the causeway.
Sixth street on the back side made easy exit.
Close to Lakeside Mall. Lots of places to eat. Groceries
(Whole Foods, Breax Mart) close by.

I used to deliver to this place back in my Metry mailman days. Small complex, seemed to be quiet and in a nice area. LINK

Disclaimer: at least, this was the case when I worked that area between 2000 - 2004.
