I disagree to an extent, depending on your financial situation. Being able to finance at a low interest rate can free up capital to invest elsewhere.

Also, due to the difficulty of learning to fly, the more often you train, the less money you’ll spend in the long term. Financing would give you the freedom to fly multiple times per week, which in most cases will shorten your training time significantly and reduce your overall cost by thousands of dollars.

Heard upkeep is expensive on those Bonanza's, but I guess any complex will be more expensive.

Well it's a 40 year old plane and slowly upgrading everything. New A/C Garmin 430.

Hi, I'm a pilot and aircraft owner. Just bought a Beechcraft Sierra and am looking for a partner. Aircraft is hangared in Hammond. The Sierra is a single engine four place, retractable. Very economical aircraft to own and operate.

There was a common saying,

"How much money does it take to fly your own plane?"

"All of it!"

Lots of misconceptions about flying and aircraft ownership. Funny to hear guys who spend thousands on Harley's saying how expensive and dangerous flying is. Everything is relative I guess. The Beechcraft Sierra is not an expensive aircraft to own and operate. Long EZ is a home-built experimental - I think it was designed by Burt Rutan. Not my thing, but I understand why people would like them.

There's a saying in aviation about twin piston engine aircraft, "The 2nd engine will get you to the scene of the crash".

”It’s got two engines because it can’t fly on one.” is how my Baron instructor taught me.

It looks like mainly fixed wing guys in here. From what I can tell they’re more practical for travel and cheaper, but not as “cool” and can’t land anywhere (relative to a heli). Are those the main decision factors in choosing?

Big difference in price. "Cool" is WAY more expensive, and it's not close.

While I agree about the relative safety of a airplane vs a motorcycle, having been partners in a Cessna 150, and a Piper Cherokee 180 I can say expense wise they are not in the same universe. With the money that was spent on repairs, replacing avionics, and normal maintenance items like oil changes, oil analysis, spark plugs, brakes, tires, batteries, annuals, etc. we could have probably bought a couple of Harleys.

Most of the flight attendants I worked with were gay, grandmas, or from the hood. There were a couple smokeshows but they usually didn’t last on the market or in the company very long.

If you aren’t an ogre and can hold a conversation, you can walk into any bar in America and leave with essentially anyone you want because you’re a pilot. No need to dip the fishing pole in company pond, IMO.

Friend of mine from HS is married to a United flight attendant. She's pretty fat. I guess they dont have weight standards any more.

I flew on a Delta Puddle jumper with one who was an Air Force MSGT. she was stationed at Barksdale and flew the SHV-DFW route every weekend.
