Speaking mainly just personal/recreational, but commercial too I suppose. Know several people that fly their own planes/helicopters. Really interesting but I think getting/using a license is outside of my economic power

I have a PP but have been out if medical for over four years.
Cost $10,000 and I can't even fly in a cloudy day.
I never went back for instrument.

Anyone here looking to get into fractional owner ship I may be down.

It's fun, but at $135 a hour it's expensive to rent.

You can do it. Just private would be about $10k.

If you do pursue it, keep up with it. Don't create excuses to take extended periods of time off. You'll need to stay sharp in training or you're looking at spending more money.

If you go on weekends, not even every weekend, you can easily do it in a matter of months if the weather cooperates.

It's a challenging but very rewarding experience.

I took lessons up until it was time for my solo flight. I didnt feel like I was ready as my landings were still inconsistent but my instructor kept pushing for it. Basically made me quit going. He ended up crashing and killing himself a few years down the road unfortunately.

It was cool but flying in a cessna in the summer was definitely not a great experience.

I will be a pilot for the new space force, or would that be an astronaut?

I keep going back and forth on doing it. I love flying but I also love living.

I think I know who you’re referring to, did he crash with his dog in the plane with him?

Just thought it would be interesting if some folks shared their experiences. It seems awesome but costly, dangerous, etc.

no I think he was carrying someone from Louisiana Corrections. He was a really cool guy, He probably knew better than me but when you are a 19/20 year old kid, maybe you arent as sure of yourself as you should be with your life in your own hands in a plane owned by someone else. I definitely didnt want to be responsible for crashing someone plane, dead or not.

My SO took lessons and got his license but then his instructor crashed and died, he hasn’t flown since.

Gotcha. Mine has been mostly military and commercial. Very little GA experience for me..... I think you can get a PPL between 5-10k. If you can do it financially I would say go for it. It is a great experience and great way to pick up chicks, if that’s your thing.
