Oh come on, you know the OT loves a good vaccine thread
Whatever it is, I sincerely hope yall figure it out soon. These things are so stressful for parents when the child can’t verbalize what’s happening and how it feels.

Baby does not seem bothered, no nail changes , and it is essentially the same all three times except tonight we noticed his thumb started doing it as well

Also, thanks everyone for the help and kind words.

Ask current provider for a referral or someone that can give a 2nd opinion.
If they refuse or give you the cold shoulder, find a new pediatrician.

Pretty funny reading all these replies from people who act like they might know what it could be but just asked ChatGPT and are acting like the came up with questions.

In all fairness, greenbean is very open about him using AI to assist.
I was just hoping someone else had some experience with this, I can’t imagine this is something so rare no one ever heard of it….. I hope

I am on the fence… in babytacs defense, we walk in to Dr office, Doc has no clue what it is. He literally says that, and then proceeds to prescribe antibiotics.. I mean come on. If that’s your idea of premier healthcare… now obviously I don’t think I’m better off with YouTube and Google lol

You nailed it with this clown.

No lesions? Vesicles? Blister-like formations?
Could be herpetic whitlow. Haven't seen it this young, but I was going to ask if he sucked his fingers.

Never agree with a pathological liar.

Would you rather then order thousands of dollars of tests, cultures and wait weeks for them to fully result, or go with his best guess? Treat it at home pussy.

Family ancestry from the Mediterranean area?

You didn't mention the color of the swollen area in OP but infection is far and away the most likely culprit of a swollen finger tip with no hair tourniquet in a young child.... the lack of tenderness is inconsistent but doesn't decrease the likelihood of infection enough to not try antibiotics.
frick "BabyTac"....Your doc sounds like they were honest.... chose the most urgent AND easiest to treat cause, and optioned for deductive reasoning.

Prescribing antibiotics for a swollen thumb is next level dumb. Even an NP who got her MSN from an online degree mill would probably have enough foresight to know that inappropriate antibiotic use contributes to resistant strains of certain bacteria.
Really? You're good enough to say that without seeing or examining the pt? I've seen a child almost die from a staph infection in a finger because the doctor said antibiotics weren't indicated.
He settled that one out of court.

I plugged you post into AI just to see what it may come up with. This one seemed to fit. But obviously, side with the pediatrician or even take them to another one for another opinion.
Lymphatic or Vascular Issue
Since:
• It’s very swollen
• Not painful
• No fever
• Comes and goes
• Now affecting another digit
That raises the possibility of:
• Localized lymphatic malformation
• Vascular congestion
• Intermittent obstruction
These don’t usually respond dramatically to antibiotics — so improvement might have been coincidental.
