Quick back story, I got offered a co-op to work for Anheuser Busch for a semester while I'm still in school working towards my degree. Was curious if any of you guys here have worked in that field and have anything to add about it? Seems like a good opportunity but would call for me to take a semester off and I want to know if it is worth it. TIA

I'm sure there is at least one maintenance engineer on here.

Is the opportunity related to engineering, but for A-B? That sounds like a no-brainer.

I'm no engineer, but as much beer as I drink, I may as well work in the industry.

without boring you with the details, it would be to work with other engineers on the supply side and in brewing operations, so mainly focusing on mechanical engineering and chemical most likely. I would be on the chemical side of things.

You'll be loading kegs in Peyton's SUV.

I really don't know what to tell you if you are really contemplating passing up on an opportunity to work for AB-InBev just to dick off for a semester and take 12-15 hours at LSU.

Back 7-8 years ago when ethanol was getting government handouts left and right it seemed almost all the engineers I met at the ethanol plants had come from breweries.

Well I am close to graduating and as most of you who finished up at LSU know the bullshite reality of courses only being offered in either spring or fall, so it could ultimately set me back a year. That's why I am really weighing the options here.

How much chemical engineering does making beer take?

I'm sure there has to be a good bit into it, but I guess I won't really know until I get there lol

Am a ChE grad from LSU and never did co-op. However would recommend co-op because it may lead you to get a job with them after graduation. Price of oil and outsourcing is gonna ensure less jobs in general so this would be win win, even if you lose a year.

Not that much. It's not that hard to make your own beer.

Besides it's not like they are looking for people to come up with new recipes or anything.

Have you ever worked or interned for a summer?
Do you have any jobs or strong leads lined up upon graduating?
Can you take any of your required courses elsewhere (ULL, SELA, Southern) and still obtain credit towards your degree for them?

but when you're mass producing on a scale like A-B you have to know your shite. If they have problems with a batch, you're going to have to figure out what went wrong and where, then take the appropriate steps to ensure it doesn't happen again.

A-B isn't a bunch of homebrewers getting together on weekends for a bottle share...

all great questions, no I have not interned which is why I am excited about the opportunity to gain real world experience, and no not a lot of leads for post graduation which is another plus for this opportunity, and finally it's in houston so I would relocate for a bit. I guess i could see if there is any online classes i could take to stay enrolled or if any colleges in the houston area could accommodate.

I'd say do it. You will probably get some swag and some decent perks.
