Any decent investigator would be able to pull Lexis Nexis, Lynx intel for you and start from there. If hes local he should be able to tap DMV, Courts, employment etc. not that hard
You just need someone who can afford to legally obtain the intel or that has tthe legal permission to do so.

WHat do you need done? It's a custody case? Who is the appointed GAL for the child?
It is a custody case. The GAL is a major part of the problem so I would rather not state his name. He is supposed to be impartial and advocating on behalf of the child but he seems more concerned with advocating for the father. JMHO

I need to know if there are any familial ties between any of these people running the show up there or if there is a financial interest to keep that boy in his father's custody. I've presented them with a stack of paperwork proving this guy to be a habitual liar but no one seems to care.

shite he could be my neighbor. What kind of info would you be looking for from the surveillance?
Hmmmm...I don't know if that's good or bad....lol. I just want to know if when my nephew is being brought to or brought home from school does he look like he is being treated well. Does he look happy or sad? Is he getting the same treatment as his half brother?

I'm trying to find out why this man who I've proven to be a liar is getting the benefit of the doubt. Anything he says is the gospel and anything my family member presents is dismissed.

Our lawyer has stated that she has talked to several other judges within that court system and none of them feel the case should even be heard in Ohio; unfortunately, we got the only judge and magistrate who think they have control over this decision.

The boy and his mother lived in Alabama for 7 years of his life. He's been in Ohio 5 months. One of the judge's reasons for keeping the case was, "well he's been here this long..." So, in her eyes 5 months trumps 7 years.

Has this always been the case or is this a fairly recent development? (You have to ask nowadays).
Always have been...in fact I'm a good Southern woman who stopped by the store on my way home so I could fix my man a sammich...

They live in B'ham area. She had custody of my nephew with little to no involvement from father. He claims she hid him (totally false). He obtained "emergency" custody in Jun during summer visitation based on a minor incident. He gave false testimony during the hearing but the court with the help of the GAL gave him temporary custody.

We've filed transfer orders with Alabama; Ohio denied them. We've filed to have the DHR record released to the Ohio court to show it was minor; Alabama judge won't do it citing privacy matters. Said judge recently lost in election. Now I don't know where we are.

In addition, there was a trial date set for last month. Six family members traveled to Ohio from the Gulf Coast to testify. Two days prior, opposing council had a conflicting trial (all local) and the magistrate continued our case until Feb. So, now we get to do this all over again.

This is why it's tough trying to finance a new lawyer. The cost of maintaining a lawyer in Ohio and Alabama as well as having to constantly travel to Columbus has put a financial strain on us. It would be difficult to come with another $2500 retainer and $4-5K trial prep fee. In the meantime, the father is sitting in Ohio laughing because he doesn't have to do anything.

It's very frustrating.

The connection well may be between his lawyer in OH and the court/judge and not his family, though either or both is the possibility.

Home cooking in other words.

Hiring the very best local attorney is the key, one who knows the ins and outs, possibly has a good relationship with the judge/court locally.

And don't be afraid to hire a lady attorney. They get a bit more passionate in these cases many times.

We have a lady attorney...the judge is a woman and the magistrate is a woman.

Our lawyer and the judge in Alabama are women. It's insane!

His lawyer is a man who acts like a bully, just like his client. I want to hire a man who will intimidate this guy. I just need to figure out how to come up with $6-7K to finance him.

We have a top-rated Alabama attorney. The one we need to replace is the Ohio attorney. Thanks though.

I'm hoping now that the judge that's been holding us up in Alabama has been defeated, the new judge will get things rolling.

Family law is evil. Wish you the best of luck. Research Bar Associations in OH. I would also contact the OH State Bar. They may have a similar connect with an attorney program.

Yes, it is totally evil. This is my first experience with family law, and I must say I'm not impressed. It's not about the kids; it's about money. We've spent over $10K and are getting shafted.
Thanks for the resource. I will check it out.

The odds of this are about 1:500,000. The odds you have a shitty lawyer are about 1:4. The odds the judge just sees the facts differently than you are 1:2.

I wouldn't spend a bunch of money on a PI goose chase when your money would be better spent on counsel. Sorry to be a wet blanket.

I can't help on a PI but I can give you the name of the lawyer I used in Columbus. She charged us 1800 and got everything I wanted We were doing out of state visitation/support not custody though.

She's Puerto Rican and hot. Nice to us but a fire cracker to the other side.
