Any of you fellas enjoy a pipe (tobacco) every once in a while?

I've found it to be very relaxing and almost therapeutic.
I've never smoked cigarettes, but have enjoyed cigars on occasion and I'm just starting to learn more about pipes and am really starting to enjoy smoking a pipe.
Anyone else?

My dad was a pipe smoker years ago. I'm glad he quit. No tobacco is safe. Sorry to be that guy who buzzkills the thread, but whatever.

Why yes I do. Once or twice a week. Something about it is very relaxing.

Not a buzzkill to me. To each his own...
I honestly think the relaxation and stress relief that it brings to me outweighs the slight possibility of the negative health effects related to smoking - as I don't "partake" very often.

Do you grind it up and pack it like pot?

Nah... I usually buy blended stuff from tobacco shops online. I've also bought some full flake stuff that you have to kinda crumble, but find that not to be worth the hassle.
I do like the tin it comes in, though

I definitely prefer English over Virginia.

I was hoping someone would chime in on that. I've actually never smoked English full flake. Could you describe the difference?

To me it's kinda of like the difference between a cigarette and a good cigar.
My regular s are macbaren and dunhill. Both brands have a quality variety.

This guy. Been a cigar smoker for years. Just getting into pipe. Like it.

My Dad was into it when I was a kid; he had a pretty good collection. When I was home for the holidays during college, I smoked pipes with him a few times on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
Neither one of us have done it for years, but I remember liking it. That might be because they were just cool memories with my Dad, but I'm not opposed to trying it again.

No, but to each their own.
We all have our vices in some way, shape or form. Whatever relaxes ya!

Spoken as only a true pipe smoker could.

Thank you for the input

I tried, but found I had to smoke at a less than relaxing pace in order to keep it lit. Either was horrible at packing, or had a shitty pipe.

Used to be a Fall/winter seasonal thing (no idea why), but now its anytime like when I'm grilling, or chilling on Sunday afternoons while the kids run around the back yard, etc.

I found that pipes were too much of a hassle and burned my tongue too much. I liked the flavor way more than a cigar (felt more damp and earthy) but it just got to be too much of a mess/hassle. Probably stick to my one cigar every month or so.

I have a buddy that recently got into it. I've only done it once but I enjoyed it better than a cigar. My dad has some on my great-grandpa's pipes in his closet, about 8 of them with a rack. I need to check those out.
Can anyone recommend a "starter pipe"?

I have been a cigar smoker for 10 years and a pipe smoker for 5 years. I prefer cigars to pipes. With that said, I echo the sentiment that pipe smoking is somewhat therapeutic. The therapeutic aspect comes from the deep, prolonged breathing that is necessary to smoke a pipe. I originally got into pipe smoking because I liked the smell, however I quickly found out that the taste and smell are no where near the same. I still smoke my pipe on occasion though. When it is cold, the heat of the pipe acts almost like a small hand-held heater.
I still prefer a good Tatuaje Reserva SW, Ashton VSG, or Padron 1926 to any pipe tobacco I have ever had. The Tatuaje Reserva series may be the best and most consistent cigar on the market. If you have never had a cuban cigar, grab a Tatuaje Reserva and you will have the closest thing to a cuban cigar on the american market.
