Louisiana is a community property state so you could also look into a seperate property agreement if you don't want to co-mingle assets gained during marriage.

Yes. The only thing on our prenup involves a family business I own. I don't intend anything to ever come of it, but it was necessary to insulate some family assets. It was a pretty simple conversation. "Hey, this thing says you're not entitled to anything involving XYZ Company if we ever split up." "Okay, cool, let me sign it." Done. She's logical and rational, so it wasn't a big deal.

Another good reason to live in Florida. My divorce was done in less than 3 months with no prenup.

Dakarx has a very good example and one similar to one of my relatives. He had a successful career and had a couple of children from his first marriage, he was only about 6 years from retiring and had substantial savings, 2 homes and a large insurance policy with his children as beneficiaries. The woman he was dating was several years younger than him, had a child from her first marriage, also had a high paying job with 15 years to still work, savings and insurance for her child. She was also from a family that was very wealthy and they were paranoid of their kids and grandkids bringing folks into the family through marriage.
They both felt the need to have what they had worked for before they met go to their own biological children, they got a prenup and had wording put in to have their past lives stay financially separate from their new married life. They also had wording that directed future earnings, purchases, unexpected financial windfalls and potential inheritance that she was definitely in line for.
They basically got each other, shared current bills and expenses and ensured each other a home to live in should either of them die, it seemed to make them both feel that neither one was marrying the other for financial “gold digger” gains.

Wait until you see how divorce attorneys attack prenups and try to have them set aside

This is such an ignorant take.

Good idea if you and your fiancé have a significant wealth disparity, and you are on the wealthy side. Most people aren’t marrying someone with a significant wealth disparity though. That usually leads to divorce. And I don’t mean a rich guy marrying a woman who will become a stay at home mom. Usually in that case that woman came from some money herself. Marriages across class lines tend to not work out

I know this is a small demographic... I'm an ag lender. I've seen dozens of farmers get fleeced over the years with the ex who couldn't drive you to the south 40 if you put a gun to her head walk away with 1/2 the net worth in 100% tax free cash and leave the farmer riddled in debt and still yet the farmer ended up in better shape once she is gone. "Cheaper to keep her" is a myth.
